(KGTV) - A major turning point for the town of Oceanside was the creation of Camp Pendleton."It was just a village, Oceanside was just a village and all of a sudden you have all these workers coming into Oceanside for a place to sleep, a place to eat," said Faye Jonason, History and Museum Director at Camp Pendleton since 1996.According to the Oceanside Historical Society, the town's population more than doubled in five years. Restaurants, schools, and hotels were bursting at the seams. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor spurred the U.S. Navy to purchase the 132,000 acres of Rancho Santa Margarita y las Flores Mexican land grant. CC, a 13-year-old Maltipoo, was attacked by the coyote Wednesday about 9 p.m. at her home on Morgan Creek Way. “Thinking I’m never going to see her again,” said Joe Vines Jr., CC’s owner. Video from the Ring camera shows CC scurrying into the front yard as Vines locks his door. He was about to put CC in the car to run errands when he heard her cry for help. Vines turned around to find CC in the coyote’s jaws. RELATED: Dog named Roadrunner escapes coyote in chase down Vista street“His whole mouth was around her body, holding her like that,” Vines said. “In my head I’m thinking, I’m not going to let me dog….I’m not going to let her leave in someone's mouth.” Vines chased down the coyote, which dropped CC nearby. CC had several deep bites. She suffered two broken ribs and now has breathing problems. Vines will keep a closer eye on his dog from now on. WHY PA RESULTS MAY TAKE WEEKSJoe Corrigan, a political consultant in Philadelphia, says with a record number of voters voting by mail, combined with state rules regarding when ballots can be counted, results will take time. "We are seeing about 10 to 15 thousand mail-in ballots requested a day (in Pennsylvania)," Corrigan said. These ballot requests are overwhelming elections offices across the state."Pennsylvania law prohibits county boards of elections from counting any absentee ballots or mail-in ballots until 8 p.m. on Election Day when polls close," Corrigan added. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled Thursday that ballots can arrive until 5 p.m. ET on the Friday after the election and still count.
