Health officials in Santa Clara County, California, say that they have traced 94 cases of COVID-19 to a youth basketball tournament that took place illegally at a nearby indoor sports complex last month.According to CNN, Courtside Basketball Center in Rocklin, California — located northwest of Sacramento — hosted a "Fall Fest" tournament on Nov. 7 and 8 that featured several teams and dozens of players and coaches.On Friday, The Mercury News reported that a total of 94 cases of COVID-19 — including 77 in Santa Clara County alone — could be traced back to the tournament.The Mercury News says the outbreak includes 39 "middle- and high school players," three coaches and 35 additional contacts."This outbreak is a troubling reminder that the widespread prevalence of COVID-19 in our community threatens all of us, and does not limit itself to geographic boundaries," Santa Clara County's assistant public health officer, Dr. Monika Roy, said in a statement.The California Department of Public Health said in a release that is has opened an "enforcement investigation" into the tournament's operator.CNN reported last month that the Courtside Basketball Center's website included a note that urged anyone who was in attendance for the tournament to get tested for the virus, "regardless of whether they have symptoms."As of last month, CNN reports that the complex had hoped to host four more basketball tournaments by the end of the year. The center's website now says it is "closed until further notice."Santa Clara County — which is located south of San Francisco and is home to the city of San Jose — has among the strictest COVID-19 restrictions in the country. The county has banned most contact sports at all levels — youth, college and professional — and the restrictions have forced the San Francisco 49ers to move two home games to Arizona."Public Health orders, directives, and guidance around contact sports and sporting events are in place for a reason. Grand Canyon’s entire men’s basketball team has been placed in quarantine after four players and two support staff members tested positive for COVID-19.All 14 players and two student managers are in quarantine at a designated on-campus residence hall for the next two weeks.Players began reporting for voluntary individual workouts last week and were placed in quarantine for 72 hours pending results of coronavirus tests and physicals. Four players who were asymptomatic tested positive at the end of the 72 hours and were placed in quarantine while contact tracing was conducted.Players who tested negative were placed in quarantine as a precaution and will be tested again. The two support staffers who tested positive will remain at home for two weeks. 764

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Several dozen students interrupted an event featuring actress Jenna Fischer at DePauw University Tuesday to protests recent racial incidents on and near campus.Many of them held signs with things claiming they are "afraid for their lives" after recent events. Fischer, star of the sicoms "The Office" and "Splitting Up Together" was at the university to discuss her new book, "The Actor's Life: A Survivor's Guide."University Spokesman Ken Owen, who was moderating the lecture with Fischer, said about 15 minutes into the program a group of students got up and began interrupting the event whistling, shouting and saying they were afraid for their safety on campus because of the recent racial incidents. Last week, a hateful message was found written in a bathroom at the university. The message, which read " All ******* must die -KKK," was written on a bathroom wall of the Inn at DePauw, a public building on campus. Another anti-Semitic and homophobic messages were also found. The video above was captured during the Tuesday evening protests by Shannon Samson. Another event being investigated by the university involves a hateful slur written in rocks at the DePauw nature park, which is owned by the university. Owen said there was a meeting with the school president Tuesday over the events and that have happened up until that point and they expect more meetings in the future. DePauw University issued the following statement on social media after the event.  1573

GREENWOOD, Ind. — An Indiana family is asking for help to identify a driver who was caught on camera plowing through their yard to destroy their Christmas decorations. The video starts with a man getting out of his black SUV and then walking up to take a closer look at the front yard where Casie Arnold says her family had a giant inflatable Christmas decoration. The man then gets back into his vehicle, backs up and plows straight through the family's yard and over the top of that 12-foot inflatable decoration. Neighbor cameras caught the whole thing on surveillance video, which you can see below.  642

Health officials in Wisconsin are warning against eating a traditional holiday dish called "cannibal sandwiches."According to the Wisconsin Historical Society, the dish is raw, lean ground beef served on bread with sliced onions, salt and pepper. It's also sometimes known as "tiger meat" or "steak tartare.""Many Wisconsin families consider them to be a holiday tradition, but eating them poses a threat for Salmonella, E. coli O157:H7, Campylobacter and Listeria bacteria that can make you sick," said the Wisconsin Department of Health Services in a Facebook post on Saturday.The department added that ground beef should "ALWAYS" be cooked to an internal temperature of 160° F and that it doesn't matter where you buy the meat, it's still risky.There have been eight outbreaks linked to eating a raw ground beef dish, including one large Salmonella outbreak that involved more than 150 people in Dec. 1994, according to the health department.For more information, click here.This story was originally published by staff at WTMJ. 1039
