CAIRO, June 21 (Xinhua) -- China's new special envoy on the Middle East issue Wu Sike said here on Sunday that China is willing to push forward the peace process with all the parties concerned under new circumstances in the region. "The Chinese government and its people are very concerned about the situation of the Middle East, which has witnessed positive developments recently," Wu said during his talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abu Gheit.     "China, together with the parties concerned and the international community, is willing to push forward the Middle East peace process under the current new circumstances," he added.   Arab League Secretary General Amr Mahmoud Moussa (R) meets with visiting China's special envoy on the Middle East issue Wu Sike in the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, capital of Egypt, on June 21, 2009    "Negotiation is the only and the best way to solve the conflicts in the region and China will support all the efforts in this regard," he said.     For his part, Abu Gheit said that Egypt appreciates China's efforts in facilitating the peace process, hoping that the Chinese government, along with the special envoy, would play a bigger role on the issue.     Earlier in the day, Wu also met with the Cairo-based Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa.     Wu, former Chinese ambassador to Egypt, was appointed as the special envoy in March this year to replace Sun Bigan.     He has been director of the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and also the first Chinese plenipotentiary to the Arab League.     Egypt is the first stop of Wu's regional trip which will also take him to the Palestinian territories, Israel, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Russia.

BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares continued Tuesday's rising momentum to hit a new high with Shanghai Composite Index closing at 3,188.55 on Wednesday, setting the highest close since June 2008 as coal, nonferrous metal and auto shares bolstered the rise.     The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 1.38 percent, or 43.39 points, to 3,188.55.     The Shenzhen Component Index advanced 0.68 percent, or 88.19 points, to 13,079.26. BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- China's ethnic culture is an important component of the Chinese culture, has made enormous contribution to the formation and development of the Chinese Nationality, and has been a valuable spiritual treasure shared by the Chinese Nationality.     This was remarked by Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, at a national work conference on ethnic culture, which opened here Friday. GUANGZHOU, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Typhoon Molave hit land in south China early Sunday, with heavy rain forecast in most parts of the Guangdong Province in the following two days, local observatory said.     Molave, the 6th tropical storm this year which became typhoon, landed at Nanao town in Shenzhen City of Guangdong Province at 0:50 a.m. Sunday Beijing Time, with winds up to 145 km per hour in its eye.     Strong gales and heavy rains hit Shenzhen City, resulting in water flowing on streets. However, as residents and vehicles were scare during the night, the weather had no major impact on local people's living yet. ASHGABAT, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said here on Wednesday that the joint natural gas projects between China and Turkmenistan serve the fundamental and long-term interest of both peoples.     Li made the remarks during a video conference with the Chinese and Turkmenistan's workers of China National Petroleum Corporation International (Turkmenistan). The workers had been busy with constructing a vast natural gas processing facility in a natural gas field some 700 kilometers southeast of Turkmenistan's capital Ashgabat.
