"On Jan. 15, the Chinese government announced its decision to provide 30 million yuan (about 4.4 million U.S. dollars) worth of humanitarian emergency supplies to Haiti."The first charter plane loaded with these supplies arrived in Haiti on Jan. 17, bringing to the local people medicine, tents, portable emergency lights, water purification equipment, food, drinking water and clothes, he said. "The second plane, which was delayed due to limited capacity of the Haitian airport, will arrive on Jan. 26."Since Jan. 13, the 60-member emergency rescue team sent by the Chinese government has fully engaged in disaster relief in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, he said. "The team has carried out effective search and rescue operations at the headquarters of MINUSTAH (the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti), the prime minister's palace and other places, with a number of bodies found, including those of Special Representative Hedi Annabi of MINUSTAH and other UN staff.""The medical team of the Chinese rescue team are providing medical support for several hundred local people everyday," he said. "At this very moment, the Chinese international rescue team is still working at this forefront of disaster relief in Haiti and doing its utmost to help more people affected by the earthquake."Since the earthquake struck Haiti on Jan. 12, the international community has worked in solidarity to offer a helping hand to the Haitian people and government, he said. BEIJING, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's banking regulator asked lenders to keep credit growth at reasonable pace in 2010 and vowed to tighten supervision on property loans amid increasing risk of asset bubbles."Banks should reasonably control new loans, better manage the pace and try to achieve balanced issuance and steady growth of credit quarter by quarter, " Liu Mingkang, chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) at a meeting on Tuesday.Despite regulator's repeated warnings on risks hidden from the record 9.6 trillion yuan of new loans last year, banks rushed to lend more than 1 trillion yuan in the first month of this year in fear of the expected tighter loan policy in 2010 after the credit binge last year as media reported.An official with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China told Xinhua the credit growth in the first ten days of January was a little bit fast, and turned smooth in the last days of the month.According to the statement posted on CBRC's Web site on Wednesday, Liu said the regulator will pay special attention to the changes in the property market, strictly enforce relevant policy, and beef up the "window guidance" over credit to the real estate sector.But he restated banks should continue to support first-time home buyers.Liu also told banks to continue lending to fund rural development, small business, consumer spending and environmental protection.He said banks should keep adequate capital and heed of resurgence of bad loans.

BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's tourism revenue rose 26.9 percent to 64.62 billion yuan (9.46 billion U.S. dollars) during the Spring Festival, the National Tourism Administration (NTA) said Sunday.China received 125 million tourists during the holiday period from Feb. 13 to 19, up 14.8 percent from the same period last year, a statement on the NTA website said.Of the tourism revenue, 4.6 billion yuan came from airlines while 2.83 billion yuan from railways. The tourists spent 26.51 billion yuan in China's 39 key tourism cities and 30.68 billion yuan in other areas.Among the tourists, 29.92 million stayed overnight and 95.13 million stayed for less than one day.

BEIJING, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- China's large textile businesses took in 133.15 billion yuan (19.57 billion U.S. dollars) in profits in the first 11 months of last year, according to figures released by the China Textile Industry Association.The profits were up by 25.39 percent year on year, 36.40 percentage points more than that in the Jan.-Feb. period.The industry posted a total production value of 3.43 trillion yuan and 3.35 trillion yuan in sales value, each up by 9.71 percent and 9.82 percent as all major products saw production rise.The industry also witnessed a slow recovery in export. In the 11 months, garment export fell by 11.02 percent to 154.1 billion U.S. dollars, but the drop narrowed by 0.19 percentage points compared to the first 10 months.By contrast, domestic sale accounted for 79.89 percent in the total sales, up by 3.15 percent.

BEIJING, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Being the only foreign rescue team to run medical-aid stations in quake-ravaged Haiti, Chinese rescuers are giving quake victims what they desperately need: medical assistance, team members told Xinhua via phone Saturday.     The China International Search and Rescue Team, arriving in Port-au-Prince at 2 a.m. local time on Jan. 14, opened the first medical assistance station at 8 p.m. the next day, said captain Hou Shike.     The station had been treating patients pulled out of debris and provided medical support to medical and security personnel, he said.     China's second station in the refugee camp near the office building of Haitian prime minister had treated and some 120 people, while giving hygiene tips and conducting epidemic prevention work in the camp.     "To prevent epidemics, we had sterilized an area of 300 square meters in the refugee camp crammed with thousands of quake victims," Hou said.     "Confronted with severe wound infection, numerous refugees are in urgent need of professional medical treatment," said Fan Haojun, deputy captain of the team.     He said although local volunteers had done their best to offer basic treatment, but because of the lack of wound cleansing, infections among some of the wounded had deteriorated that even small operations costed more time and medicines than usual, said Fan.     The Chinese rescue team of more than 60 people left Beijing for the Caribbean island Wednesday night along with 10 tonnes of food, equipment and medicines.     The massive quake also left eight Chinese police officers, serving in China's peacekeeping forces, buried. The body of one missing police officer had been found, said China's public security ministry late Saturday night.
