We hear it all the time--save the bees! Well, one Colorado woman has come up with an idea that could do just that.Danielle Bilot, an instructor at the University of Colorado Boulder, created the Forgotten Hive project. The initiative aims to transform parts of parking lot spaces into rest stops for bees.“These native bees, some of them can only fly about three blocks before they need more food,” explains Bilot. “And, so, if we don't have a frequent enough system, they're going to potentially die trying to get to the next big park space.”Bilot, with the help of students involved in the project, added nearly two dozen different plants at the edge of one parking lot in Boulder. The new plants, which replaced shrubs, will hopefully give bees a place to get food year-round.Bilot says there are more than 3,600 native bee species around the country, and they're not just cool to look at.“They are more efficient pollinators for crops than the honeybees we often think of,” says Bilot.Bilot visits the lot at least once a week to observe the bees and to take note of how they’re responding to the plants.“If some of them aren't attracting native bees, and we're not catching them on them, we won't plant them in the next lot,” Bilot says.The instructor hopes to spread the word and to spread hives to parking lots around her city, the country and the world.“We're looking at a large amount of urban land that can be converted into productive green space for a variety of benefits,” says Bilot. “What city wouldn't want to do that?” 1548

Washington, D.C. (KGTV) - A bombshell surprise in the form of a mystery allegation led to the postponement for Darrell Issa's confirmation to serve in the Trump administration. The unusual machinations at Thursday's hearing in the Senate could derail the nomination and push Issa to run for Congress, instead.The scheduled hearing came one year to the day after President Donald Trump nominated Issa, a former nine-term congressman serving parts of San Diego and Orange County, to run the U.S. Trade and Development Agency. But as the hearing began, ranking Democrat Robert Menendez (D-New Jersey) moved that the hearing be held in private. "There's information in his FBI background investigation that concerns me greatly, and that I believe members may find problematic, and potentially disqualifying for Senate confirmation," Menendez said. "I firmly believe that every member of this committee should have the opportunity to review that information." He went on to suggest that holding the hearing in public could bring embarrassment or harm to Issa.Chairman James Risch (R-Idaho) initially suggested continuing in public, but then left the room for a brief conference with Menendez and Issa. When the senators returned, Issa was not with them. Risch revealed his decision to postpone the confirmation hearing indefinitely. Risch later told reporters he had seen nothing in Issa's FBI file that he found disqualifying.Afterward, in an interview with CNN, Issa suggested that Menendez was simply trying to defeat his nomination out of politics and that there is nothing in the background check that hasn't been previously reported in the media. WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Better Business Bureau is warning the public about multiple contact tracing scams.The BBB says scammers are taking advantage of people’s fears about contracting the coronavirus as public health officials roll out contact tracing programs.These programs are developed to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by informing people who may have come in contact with someone who has tested positive.According to the BBB, the scam takes two forms – through messages or via phone call.The unsolicited messages can come via texts, emails or social media messengers. They claim that you’ve come in contact with someone with COVID-19, you’re instructed to self-isolate and link is provided to learn more details. Don’t click the link. It may contain malware that downloads to your device.The phone version of the scam involves a robocall claiming to be part of “contact and tracing efforts,” according to the BBB. Again, the call informs you that you’ve been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. After electing to speak to a representative, the “contact tracer” asks you to verify personal information. While contact tracers do normally reach out by phone, be sure to hang up if the caller doesn’t meet certain guidelines.The BBB says this how to tell a real contact tracer from a scammer:· Contact tracers will ask you to confirm your identity, but not for financial information. Tracers will ask you to confirm your name, address, and date of birth. In most cases, they will already have this information on file. They will also ask about your current health, medical history, and recent travels. They will not ask for any government ID numbers or bank account details.· Contact tracers will identify themselves: The call should start with the tracer providing their name and identifying themself as calling from the department of health or another official team.· Contact tracing is normally done by phone call. Be extra wary of social media messages or texts.· A real contact tracer will never reveal the identity of the person who tested positive. If they provide a person’s name, you know it’s a scam.· Think the link may be real? Double check the URL. Scammers often buy official-looking URLs to use in their cons. Be careful that the link is really what it pretends to be. If the message alleges to come from the local government, make sure the URL ends in .gov (for the United States) or .ca (for Canada). He later deleted the tweet and the White House said the president had not heard “the one statement” on the video. The video appears to have been taken at The Villages, a Florida retirement community. It shows dueling demonstrations between Trump supporters and opponents. Trump tweeted: “Thank you to the great people of The Villages.” South Carolina Sen.
