An advisory committee is recommending Americans age 75 and older, along with essential workers like firefighters, teachers, and grocery store workers should be next in line for the COVID-19 vaccine.This second wave of people comes after the first tier of health care workers and long-term care facility residents that was agreed to by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices earlier this month should get the first of the vaccine shots that started last week.The committee, composed of health experts in the field of immunization, makes recommendations to the CDC, and they are almost always adopted.They voted Sunday afternoon on the recommendation, it was 13-to-1. They also discussed the next tier, which could include Americans age 65-to-75, as well as those who are age 16-to-64 who have high-risk medical conditions, and other essential workers not already vaccinated, according to CNN. It comes as a second COVID-19 vaccine, made by Moderna and the National Institutes of Health, begins being shipped around the country for approved emergency use and a second week of shipments arrive of the Pfizer vaccine.The CDC says roughly 556,000 Americans received the first dose of the vaccine last week. The Pfizer vaccine started being given on Monday, December 14.The general overseeing the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines says they are on track to deliver about 20 million doses before the end of the year. Each person must receive 2 doses of the vaccine for full effect, which has been shown in both vaccines to be higher than 90% effective.As for when the second tier of frontline workers and those age 75 and older will receive their vaccines is up to state governors depending on their vaccination plans and distribution of the vaccine. The advisory panel is offering guidance to state leaders about how to handle distribution of the vaccine. 1872

An Ohio man slated to be executed on Wednesday will be allowed to use a special wedged-shape pillow as he is put to death by lethal injection, the Columbus Dispatch reported. Alva Campbell, 69, will lie on the pillow as a three-drug cocktail will be administered to execute Campbell after he was convicted for the kidnapping and killing of an 18-year-old Columbus man. Campbell was on parole at the time after being charged with aggravated murder from a 1972 killing. According to the Dispatch, Campbell has pulmonary problems and it is difficult for him to lie flat without choking.Last week, Ohio Gov. John Kasich said that he would not put a stop to the execution, despite a clemency request by Campbell's attorney.Campbell has also requested to be executed by firing squad, citing that a prison nurse was unable to find a suitable vein for an IV. A federal judge ruled out that as an option for Campbell. The Dispatch reported, citing court records, that Campbell uses a walker, relies on an external colostomy bag and requires four breathing treatments a day. An alleged sex-trafficking victim was able to escape her captors by jumping out of an 18-wheeler Wednesday night.The Cisco Police Department says around 9 p.m., officers responded to a call of a female who had been seriously injured near the Flying J/Denny's on IH-20.Police say the female injured herself after jumping from an 18-wheeler. She told officers she had been kidnapped in El Paso.It is believed that the perpetrators were going to use the female in sex trafficking operations.The Cisco Fire Department, Cisco EMS and DPS Troopers were also on-scene. The female was transported to a medical facility for treatment of her injuries.The 18-wheeler is described as a green truck tractor with a white stripe and pulling a white box-type trailer. It is occupied by three men.Another female is reportedly still in the truck and maybe in grave danger.A statewide broadcast was issued last night by Cisco PD in an attempt to locate the truck. As of publication, there has been no contact with the truck.Anyone with information is asked to contact local law enforcement at 254-629-1728. ANZA, Calif (KGTV) - Tons of weed was hauled and dropped at a high school in the Riverside County city of Anza after deputies served 80 search warrants on illegal pot farms.The substantial bust came hours after a murder on one of the farms. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office did not give out many details other than to say the death was tied to the illegal activity.Sheriff Chad Bianco said the coordinated drug bust effort took months of planning. Deputies started their work when the sun came up, Bianco said, adding he hoped to have at least 200 pot farms out of commission by the end of the day.Many of the operations took place miles down dirt roads. Some of the activities were reasonably hidden; others were easily visible. Neighbors said law enforcement officers were in full combat gear with rifles when they approached the illegal operations. The more 10News spoke to neighbors, the more we heard about the town of Anza being overrun with pot farms."We've been complaining for a long time, and it's happening," said Anza resident Dan, who did not want to be identified because he fears retaliation."With them common cartels and gangs and grows that are protecting themselves from thieves, and with that come guns and come gunfights and come shootings and robberies," Bianco said."This isn't a victimless crime. This is not a pretty little plant that we're taking, someone's medicine, this is a quality-of-life issue that is destroying this valley," Bianco added.The magnitude of the operation was visible as overflowing trucks and helicopters left the area with loads of pot plants. Bianco said the drugs would be destroyed.Neighbors stopped to watch the trucks pass by, saying they're feeling safer already. Dan pumped his fist in excitement, saying, "I'm loving it."The Riverside County Sheriff had a serious message for anyone thinking about starting operations back up once law enforcement clears out: "Don't grow in Anza."In unincorporated Riverside County it is prohibited to cultivate marijuana unless you have a medical card, which allows you to cultivate no more than 12 plants. 2109
