SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Troops will soon arrive at several bases throughout San Diego County to provide support U.S. Customs and Border Protection as the migrant caravan approaches.According to the United States Northern Command, troops are being sent to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Camp Pendleton, Naval Air Facility El Centro, Naval Base Coronado, Naval Base San Diego and Naval Base Point Loma. The Pentagon confirmed Wednesday that as many as 7,000 troops are being deployed to three states for support, though President Donald Trump told reporters as many as 15,000 could be sent.According to ABC News, 15,000 is roughly the number of troops deployed to Afghanistan and three times the number in Iraq."As far as the caravan is concerned our military is out, we have about 5,000-8 (thousand), we'll go up to anywhere between 10 (thousand) and 15,000 military personnel on top of border patrol, ICE and everybody else on the border," Trump told reporters Wednesday.Related Stories 997

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --A deported Army veteran who was pardoned by Governor Jerry Brown last year will now be allowed to become a U.S. citizen.Hector Barajas was honorably discharged but then deported to Mexico in 2004 after serving prison time for a shooting.  He had been waiting for news about his application for citizenship and learned Thursday that it had been approved. His swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for April 13 in San Diego. Barajas founded the Deported Veterans Support house in Tijuana and has become an advocate for the roughly 350 other men and women in the same situation. "We don't condone criminal activity, I'm not proud of what happened but I am proud of my service, and I take responsibility for what happened. I went to prison, paid my debt to society and I don't think we should be deported, " Barajas told 10News via Skype Friday morning. Although he's looking forward to starting a new chapter, he says he is very much committed to carrying on the mission he started to help bring other deported vets home.  1072

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Want to make more money? Workforce analyst site Glassdoor is breaking down the highest paying jobs and where to find them. The survey was based on salary reports shared by employees with the jobs over the past year.Tech jobs make up 13 of the top salaried positions. There are also five health care jobs on the list.“The fact that employers are paying top dollar for many tech and health care jobs reinforces how demand for these valuable skillsets continues to outpace the supply of talent with these expertises,” said Glassdoor Economic Research Analyst Amanda Stansell. “We know that salary matters a lot to job seekers when determining where to work, but it should not be the only factor to consider. We’ve found that company culture and values, career opportunities and trust in senior leadership matter most when it comes to keeping employees satisfied in their jobs long-term.”The hottest high-paid job in San Diego? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With a string of recent fires in San Diego County and statewide, it’s no secret that so-called fire season, which California fire agencies say is now year round, is getting worse. So far this year, Cal Fire has battled nearly 3,800 wildfires that have so far scorched more than 292,000 acres. That figure shows a sharp increase from previous years and is far above average for this time of year.According to Cal Fire, the last five years have, on average, seen just over 118,800 acres burned statewide by this time."We are seeing more destructive, larger fires burning at rates that we have historically never seen," said Jonathan Cox, Cal Fire regional Battalion Chief. The increasing danger even has agencies like the US Department of Agriculture warning of the risks. As far as major fire incidents, so far this year there have been well over 100.
