(KGTV) - A series of unfortunate events may have led to an albino red-tailed boa constrictor named "Lemony Snicket" disappearing from a North County museum. Officials with the EcoVivarium children's museum in Escondido believe Lemony disappeared on April 29 during a tour of the museum's Arthropod Jungle. During the tour, staff took Lemony out of its cage to show guests, before returning it to its enclosure and locking the gate.Unfortunately, a security camera facing Lemony's enclosure was damaged that same day and did not capture what could have happened.Staff said they fear the snake may have been stolen. They told 10News a man in his 20s left the tour group and never returned shortly before the snake disappeared."We are all heartbroken, and just want him safely returned, no questions asked," the museum said of Facebook. The snake was rescued four-and-a-half years ago in San Diego from an owner who had neglected it.Lemony is about 7-feet long, and yellow and orange, and has a scar on its face.Anyone with any information as to the snake's whereabouts is asked to call EcoVivarium at 760-975-9690.The situation is similar to another missing reptile case recently in North San Diego County."Bubbles" the monitor lizard slinked away from Mike's Pets in Spring Valley in March. Mike Estevez, of the store, said getting the word out was key in Bubbles' return."It really helped a lot," Estevez said. (KGTV/CNS) - CHP officers are investigating a crash in Escondido that left a driver with burns to about 80 percent of his body Wednesday morning.The 22-year-old driver, who police believe is a current or former Marine, hit a tree at Bear Valley Pkwy north of Eldorado Dr. at 2:45 a.m.The vehicle caught fire but emergency crews put out the flames. Neighbors who heard the crash also helped the driver.CHP officers initially believed the driver was dead inside the vehicle but found him alive when they put out the flames.The man was taken to UCSD Medical Center with burns and other severe injuries.The investigation closed Bear Valley Pkwy from Bear Valley Rd. to SR-78 during the morning commute.  750

(KGTV) - The Old Palomar Hospital on the eastern edge of downtown Escondido could be redeveloped into hundreds of new homes and thousands of square feet of commercial, recreational and office space.In a letter to the city, developer Integral Communities says it wants to turn the site into a 450 homes, and 5,500 square feet of commercial spaces. The project could serve as a new gateway to downtown and add some much needed foot-traffic to Grand Avenue. Some businesses were closed Wednesday despite this being the midst of holiday shopping season. Beth Stevens, who owns the Vinklectic boutique on Grand Avenue, said she would welcome the project and the crowds it could bring. "I think new development is a good thing for everyone," Stevens said. Other business owners, however, said they are concerned about the project's increased traffic. But Rorie Johnston, who heads the Escondido Chamber of Commerce, said downtown needs to become more walkable. "The more you can slow people down, the more you can keep people in an area longer, the more possibility you have to engage with them," she said. Integral reached a deal with Palomar in February to buy the site for million. Palomar moved most of its services to its new hospital in west Escondido in 2012, making the older hospital available. It still offers cancer treatments, mental health services, and has office facilities at the downtown site. A hospital spokesman says it expects to stay in the downtown location through March 2020. It currently has two Democratic commissioners, Jessica Rosenworcel and Geoffrey Starks, one of whom Biden could choose to elevate to chairman or choose someone from outside the agency.Pai and another Republican commissioner, Michael O’Rielly, are leaving the agency. O’Rielly is leaving because the White House pulled his nomination after he said he wasn’t sure the agency had authority on Section 230. He undid net neutrality rules that barred internet service providers like Comcast and AT&T from favoring some types of online traffic over others in 2017 and championed other deregulatory efforts. The incoming FCC is likely to try to reinstate net neutrality rules and focus on getting internet service to more Americans.They will likely not act on a recent directive from the Trump administration to look at Section 230 in an effort to regulate social media companies like Facebook and Twitter. Election officials in Georgia are expected to release a report that details the results of a hand recount of the 2020 presidential election on Thursday, a report that's expected to confirm President-elect Joe Biden narrowly defeated President Donald Trump in the state.The recount — which was prompted by a state law and is not connected to any suspected fraud — was ordered last week by Georgia Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger.Counties were required to report the results of their hand recount by 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday night. The Associated Press reports that Gabriel Sterling, the voting system implementation manager in the state, said he expects a report on the recount to be released by mid-day Thursday.Georgia is the final state that The Associated Press has not yet called for either candidate.Prior to the recount, Biden held a lead of about 14,000 votes statewide. While a handful of counties have reported that the hand recount found a few Trump votes that had not been counted, the new tally is only expected to shift the vote count by a few hundred votes.On Wednesday, DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond directly disputed an allegation of a "vote error" levied by State Republican party chairman David Shafer.
