About 40 percent of babies born in the United States were born to mothers who were not married, in 2015 according to the United Nations. The statistic comes from the UN Population Fund's annual report, which notes that the rate has steadily increased since 1970, when only 10 percent of children were not born to married parents. The trend is consistent with many Western countries — 60 percent of children were born to unmarried parents in the European Union in 2015, an increase from just under 20 percent in1970.The UN notes that while mothers may not waiting for marriage to have children, it's likely that the children are still growing up with two parents. The study notes that in 2010, 1 in 10 European children lived with a single mother, while 1 in 4 in children lived with an unmarried couple. The study also notes that mothers in the United States are waiting longer to have children. According to the UN, the average age of a woman when she gives birth to her first child has risen from about 22 years old in 1970 to about 26 years old in 2014.The study suggests that educated women in developed countries are entering the workforce, but may choose to wait to start a family due to the lack of affordable health care, lack of parental leave or flexible schedules.Read the entire UN study in the window below.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. A Wisconsin woman's death was possibly caused by an infection from a dog lick, the same infection that is plaguing one West Bend, Wisc. man. Earlier this month Greg Manteufel developed a similar infection, resulting in the amputation of his hands and legs. Doctors believe it was from a bacteria transferred to him when a dog licked him. Sharon Larson had just gotten a puppy. It nipped at her, causing a minor cut. A day after taking him to the vet for a check-up, Larson was rushed to the hospital. “I was told she could get struck by lightning four times and live, win the lottery twice,” said Sharon’s husband Dan Larson. “That’s how rare this is supposed to be."Dan Larson is still in shock. He thought she had the flu.“General antibiotics that they put her on didn’t do anything,” he said. Within two days at Wheaton Franciscan in Franklin, Sharon Larson was dead, at 58-years-old. “I feel like I got robbed. Lost my right arm. My best friend,” Dan Larson said. Doctors told him she tested positive for capnocytophaga. They say the bacteria, found in the saliva of most dogs, cats, even some humans, is rarely problematic and almost never deadly. But when certain people come in contact with it, it can have devastating consequences, like for Sharon. “I had no knowledge,” said Sharon’s son Steven Larson.Sharon’s son wants more answers since there is no real tracking of how many cases there have been.“What do you want people to know? To always be more cautious. cut to people think nothing of getting a simple dog bite. But even something so simple... can go wrong,” he said.  1653

After a few weeks away, "Saturday Night Live" returned to take some shots at Fox News and President Trump. The NBC variety series kicked off with a cold open of Leslie Jones as Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner reporting alerts like just the word "Mexicans" and if former President Obama could be impeached. It then went to a joint press conference with Alec Baldwin's President Trump and leaders from the Baltic states."Let's make this quick," Baldwin's Trump said. "I have a lot of trade war to escalate here, OK? That's why I just announced tariffs on more Chinese products like fireworks and finger traps."The fake president also said that he expelled the "infamous Chinese billionaire P.F. Chang" and was now welcoming the leaders from the Baltic nations."Even in the game Monopoly, Baltic Avenue was always my favorite property," Baldwin as Trump said before reading a prepared statement to prove that he "can read."The joint press conference touched on many issues, including Baldwin's Trump reading his notes to not congratulate Russian President Vladimir Putin on his election win (which, of course, he did), calling one of the Baltic leaders a "gypsy woman" and zoning out during the conference."Oh my god, I'm already so bored," Baldwin's internal monologue as Trump said while the other leaders were talking. "I wish I was watching 'Roseanne.' How great is that show? Roseanne loves me. She's like a good Rosie O'Donnell."Baldwin's Trump also answered questions from reporters about topics like why he hates Amazon and its CEO, Jeff Bezos."I hate Jeff," Baldwin as the president said. "He's way richer than me and he admits to being bald so I feel threatened on two levels."But before the end of the press conference, the fake president had to deal with a giant Easter bunny that showed up."One more thing, does anyone else see this rabbit?" he said. "I'm not the only one that sees this rabbit, right?"Baldwin's Trump then welcomed the audience to "SNL" with the show's signature phrase, "Live ... From New York, it's Saturday night!" 2052

A Washington man who followed the Pittsburgh synagogue suspect on social media was arrested on gun charges after his relatives reached out to authorities, federal court documents show.Jeffrey R. Clark Jr. was charged Tuesday with illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine and transporting a firearm in interstate commerce.Clark's family members tipped off authorities after they grew concerned over his involvement with the so-called alt-right movement, an affidavit says. It said he was "friends" with synagogue shooting suspect Robert Bowers on Gab, a social media platform that describes itself as "the free speech social network."On October 27, within hours of the attack that killed 11 people at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Clark's brother, Edward, went to Theodore Roosevelt Island in Washington and fatally shot himself, the affidavit says."After the death of Edward Clark, Jeffrey Clark became more outspoken about his radical views, expressing them openly to his family members who were in the area following Edward Clark's death," the affidavit says. "During these conversations, Jeffrey Clark defended Robert Bowers' killings at the Tree-of-Life Synagogue. Jeffrey Clark also stated that he and Edward Clark had both fantasized about killing 'Jews and blacks.' "A few days after the suicide, two family members called federal authorities and said Jeffrey Clark had been "really riled up" and "agitated" after his brother's death, and he could be a danger to himself or others, the affidavit says. 1534
