Following the FBI's admission that it failed to properly act on a tip on Jan. 5 about the man who killed 17 people at a Florida high school, Governor Rick Scott called for FBI Director Christopher Wray to resign."We constantly promote 'see something, say something,' and a courageous person did just that to the FBI. And the FBI failed to act," Scott said in a statement. "'See something, say something' is an incredibly important tool and people must have confidence in the follow through from law enforcement. The FBI Director needs to resign."Read Scott's full statement below.Today, Governor Rick Scott made the following statement regarding the FBI’s admission that they failed to take action after receiving information on January 5, 2018, regarding “[Nikolas] Cruz’s gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting.”Governor Scott said, “The FBI’s failure to take action against this killer is unacceptable. The FBI has admitted that they were contacted last month by a person who called to inform them of Cruz’s ‘desire to kill people,’ and ‘the potential of him conducting a school shooting.’“Seventeen innocent people are dead and acknowledging a mistake isn’t going to cut it. An apology will never bring these 17 Floridians back to life or comfort the families who are in pain. The families will spend a lifetime wondering how this could happen, and an apology will never give them the answers they desperately need.“We constantly promote ‘see something, say something,’ and a courageous person did just that to the FBI. And the FBI failed to act. ‘See something, say something’ is an incredibly important tool and people must have confidence in the follow through from law enforcement. The FBI Director needs to resign.”Nikolas Cruz, who has confessed to police to being the shooter, showed patterns of racism online and also promised to harm people with assault rifles. 2000

Fewer women are scheduling mammograms due to COVID-19 fears, according to a local doctor. At TriStar Summit Medical Center, Dr. Rhonda Halcomb with Centennial Women’s group, said they’re being careful.“From the time that you check in here, patients are pre-screened and screened, we provide masks and hand sanitizer here in the building, and here in the office," said Halcomb.Even though we’re in the middle of a pandemic, she said routine mammograms are still important.“Breast cancer, in general, is the number one cancer in women.”She’s sad that fewer people are showing up, or postponing their routine checks.“It breaks my heart in general that people are scared to take care of themselves,” Dr. Halcomb said.First hand, she has seen how mammograms can save lives.“Breast cancer to me has affected several of my family members. I had early breast cancer detected by screening.”Dr. Halcomb said death rates have decreased since the 1970s due to more people getting diagnosed with breast cancer - early.“Mammograms detect breast cancer before someone can feel a breast cancer before the doctor can feel the breast cancer in the breast,” Dr. Halcomb said, “Mammograms are just as important as they’ve ever been.”Actress Kelly Preston just died from breast cancer at 57-years-old. She leaves behind her husband, John Travolta. They were married for 28 years.WTVF's Alexandra Koehn was first to report. 1408

Feeding the country during a pandemic is no short order. In fact, it's an incredibly tall one stacked 60 feet high inside grocery warehouses across the country.Mike Violette is the CEO at Associated Grocers of New England. We first met Mike back in March, when Americans were buying food in record numbers. Workers in this warehouse could barely keep up with demand. Shelves sat as empty as suppliers couldn't keep up with the demand for everything from paper towels to flour."What we saw last March, you won’t see that again. Paper manufacturers have changed their lines, what they’re producing, and how they’re producing," Violette explained.Demand for groceries across the country is still up 20 percent over this time last year. While suppliers have kept up with demand, there are random shortages for things like glass mason jars."People are cooking, people are eating at home and they’re cooking. A lot of people learned to cook from last March forward, and they’re doing more of it," Violette added. This time around, Violette and other grocers are urging Americans to avoid panic buying as some states reimpose COVID-19 restrictions."There’s no need to stock up. There’ll be plenty of product; the food supply is strong and by people stocking up, it makes it harder for people to get products and people have to make more frequent stops to go to the store,” Violette said. There’s something else this grocery distributor has realized in recent months: even with near-record numbers of Americans unemployed, they’re having trouble filling jobs.Warehouses and factories across the country have noticed similar trends. Part of the reason is that workers are concerned about catching COVID-19 and not filling open positions. This is also not the kind of job that can be done from home."I think a lot of it is the type of work that it is. It involves heavy lifting, so it can be hard work," Violette said. But all that aside, these men and women will keep working to keep grocery store shelves stocked to keep America fed during the pandemic. 2050

Former US Senate candidate Roy Moore has filed a countersuit against Leigh Corfman, one of the women who accused him of making unwanted sexual advances.Moore is asking an Alabama state judge to stop all proceedings in Corfman's defamation lawsuit, calling the lawsuit "frivolous and groundless," according to the countersuit filed late Monday in Circuit Court in Montgomery County, Alabama. Corfman sued Moore in January."This is and has been a political attempt to smear the good name and reputation of Judge Roy Moore, and we will not let this injustice continue," Melissa Isaak, one of Moore's attorneys, said in a statement. "Yesterday, we filed claims for slander and defamation against Leigh Corfman, and claimed damages for attorney fees under the Alabama Litigation Accountability Act."CNN has reached out to Corfman's attorney.Moore's countersuit comes after Montgomery Circuit Judge Ronan Shaul last week denied a motion from Moore's legal team to dismiss Corfman's lawsuit, CNN affiliate WSFA reported. The judge also refused to move the suit from Montgomery County to Etowah County, the station reported. In the statement, Isaak said: "We also continue to argue that this case should be tried in Etowah County, and wonder why Leigh Corfman has chosen to file this case in Montgomery and not Etowah County, where both she and Judge Moore reside and where her character and reputation are well known."Corfman told The Washington Post?in November that Moore molested her when she was 14 and he was in his 30s. Moore later said he didn't know her.Moore has denied allegations from a number of women who have come forward accusing him of sexual assault and misconduct.President Donald Trump and the RNC backed Moore in his US Senate race last year, despite the allegations, which dogged him during the campaign.Last December, Democrat Doug Jones, upset Moore to win the Senate race. 1915

Former President Barack Obama announced Thursday morning that his new book, "A Promised Land," will be released on Nov. 20."There's no feeling like finishing a book, and I'm proud of this one. In A Promised Land, I try to provide an honest accounting of my presidency, the forces we grapple with as a nation, and how we can heal our divisions and make democracy work for everybody," Obama said in a Tweet Thursday.According to the book's website, the new release will be the first volume of Obama's presidential memoirs and it will cover his story from a young man to the first Black president. The book describes "in strikingly personal detail both his political education and the landmark moments of the first term of his historic presidency—a time of dramatic transformation and turmoil."The description also said that Obama will reflect on his presidency and bring readers inside the White House."'A Promised Land' is extraordinarily intimate and introspective—the story of one man's bet with history, the faith of a community organizer tested on the world stage," the website reads. In 2018, former First Lady Michelle Obama released her memoir, "Becoming," which became the top-selling book of the year and lead to a nationwide tour and Netflix documentary.Obama has written three other books — "Dreams from my Father" which came out in 1995, "The Audacity of Hope" in 2006 and a children's book, "Of Thee I Sing" in 2010.This story was originally published by Max White on WXYZ in Detroit. 1502
