The banana phone is back.A startup that licenses the Nokia phone brand has unveiled a new version of the 8110, a curved mobile phone that was first released in 1996 and featured in "The Matrix."The phone, which is offered in banana yellow and black, will sell for €79 (). It comes loaded with a new version of the game Snake, Finnish startup HMD said in a statement."This is a return to the glory years of Nokia," said Ian Fogg, senior analyst at IHS Markit. "But it also includes all the new technology."The 8110 comes with 4G, and a handful of apps including Google Maps, Facebook and Twitter. But it doesn't have a flashy operating system and users won't be able to download other popular apps.Fogg said that basic -- or "feature" -- phones are appealing because they are reliable, and can run for a long time on a single charge. The 8110 goes 25 days in standby mode, for example.Nokia used to be the world's largest maker of mobile phones, but it struggled to adapt to the era of smartphones and compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung.Microsoft purchased the company's handset business in 2013, but later unwound the deal. Nokia now focuses on making technology for telecommunications networks.HMD, which has licensed the Nokia brand since 2016, sold over 70 million handsets in 2017, according to IHS. That puts its sales, on an annualized basis, in the same league as Sony and Lenovo."HMD's strategy clearly aims to return Nokia to be a mobile market leader, even if it's too early for HMD to realistically target displacing Samsung or Apple," Fogg said.Nokia marketed the original 8110 as "the first of its kind in terms of its ergonomics." Its battery lasted up to six days, and it was able to store 16 ring tones and up to 324 names and numbers."It feels good in the hand and fits into any pocket. The revolutionary curved design fits the natural shape of your face," the company said in a press release at the time.  1948

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) ¡ª Hurricane Iota has battered Nicaragua¡¯s Caribbean coast and flooded some stretches of neighboring Honduras that were still under water from Hurricane Eta two weeks earlier. The extent of the damage was unclear because much of the affected region was without electricity and phone and internet service, and strong winds hampered radio transmissions.Officials reported at least four deaths around the region, and said other people were unaccounted for.Aid agencies struggled to reach their local contacts, and the government said in a statement that at least 35 towns in the east and north had no phone service. Nicaragua¡¯s telecommunications ministry said phone and broadband provider Columbus Networks was offline because of flooding in Bilwi.Preliminary reports from the coast included toppled trees and electric poles and roofs stripped from homes and businesses, said Guillermo Gonz¨¢lez, director of Nicaragua¡¯s emergency management agency. More than 40,000 people were in shelters.Iota had intensified into a Category 5 storm, but it weakened as it neared the coast and made landfall with maximum sustained winds of 155 mph (250 kph) early Tuesday morning. The system came ashore as a Category 4 hurricane about 30 miles (45 kilometers) south of the Nicaraguan city of Puerto Cabezas, also known as Bilwi. That was just 15 miles (25 kilometers) south of where Hurricane Eta made landfall Nov. 3, also as a Category 4 storm.By Tuesday night, Iota had diminished to a tropical storm and was moving inland over northern Nicaragua and southern Honduras. It had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph) and was spinning westward at 12 mph (19 kph). 1686

TAMPA, Fla. ¡ª A 0,000 reward is being offered for information on the 1997 disappearance of Don Lewis, the Tampa man whose case was featured in Netflix's "Tiger King."Lewis' family held a press conference Monday morning at Riverhills Church of God in Tampa.¡°Amazingly, our little family tragedy has become your tragedy. Our search for closure and truth has become your mission also,¡± said Lewis¡¯ daughter, Gale Rathbone. The family has retained Jacksonville attorney John Phillips to conduct their own independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance.Phillips says he will represent anyone willing to come forward with information pro-bono.RELATED: Hillsborough sheriff asks for new leads for missing man featured in Netflix's 'Tiger King'Lewis was reported missing in 1997 by his wife, Carole Baskin. In the wake of Lewis' disappearance, viewers of the Netflix series have shared theories about what happened.¡°Think about your grandfather being rumored to either have been eaten by alligators, be under a septic tank of feces or in a meat grinder,¡± said Phillips. But as wild as it may sound, Phillips says there may be merit to those theories.Baskin, the owner of Tampa's Big Cat Rescue, was featured in the Netflix hit series, which briefly touched on Lewis' disappearance.Since the show's release, Baskin and her current husband, Howard, said producers duped them into thinking the series would be about stopping the abuse of big cats."Anyone who spends an hour with Carole would come away knowing that there was no way that she had any involvement in Don's disappearance and that the vicious rumors that were spread by his family are absolute nonsense stuff about meat grinders and septic tanks," said Howard Baskin. There have been renewed calls from authorities for tips in Lewis' case since the show was released. An anonymous donor helped the family raise the reward to 0,000,¡°Whomever that person is, we are so grateful. We are hoping that with those funds someone will have the courage to come forward,¡± said daughter Donna Pettis. 2081

Student loan borrowers are getting another break.A recent executive order signed by President Trump extends the suspension of payments and interest on federally-held student loans from September 30 to December 31, but certain details are still unclear.¡°The language isn¡¯t super clear, so we student loan nerds are anxiously awaiting the Department of Education¡¯s guidance, which we are expecting in the next couple of weeks for sure,¡± said Betsy Mayotte with The Institute of Student Loan Advisors (TISLA).Borrowers have reported their loan servicers are also awaiting direction from the Department of Education.Aside from a break in payments, Mayotte said there are programs borrowers in default should take advantage of during this COVID period.¡°Loan rehabilitation is kind of an awesome and unique thing for the federal student loan program. If you make nine consecutive on-time payments in an amount that¡¯s based on your income, so the payments can be as low as , not only are you taken out of default, but they remove the default line from your credit report like it was never there. And the collection costs are significantly reduced,¡± said Mayotte. And right now, suspended payments will count toward rehabilitation.According to the department¡¯s Federal Student Aid office: ¡°If you enter a new rehabilitation agreement between March 13, 2020, and Sept. 30, 2020, suspended payments that would have been made from the beginning of your agreement until Sept. 30, 2020, will count.¡± ¡°They¡¯re counting this period like you¡¯re making those rehab payments even though you don¡¯t have to make them,¡± said Mayotte. It's still uncertain whether the same treatment will continue under the president¡¯s executive order.Mayotte added that private student loan borrowers may want to consider refinancing now that interest rates have gone down. And even though payments for many borrowers have been suspended, it doesn¡¯t mean you shouldn¡¯t pay anything, especially for those still employed. With interest waived, anything you pay now will go directly towards your principal, so when payments resume, interest will collect on a lower balance. If you have questions about your loan or need help with a dispute, TISLA offers free advice. Also, check out StudentAidPandemic.org for up-to-the-minute guidance on student loans and financial aid during the COVID-19 pandemic. If borrowers need additional assistance with their student loan servicer, they should contact the Maryland Student Loan Ombudsman by email at studentloan.ombudsman@maryland.gov or by phone at 410-230-6185.This story was reported by Mallory Sofastaii at WMAR. 2631

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. ¨C Hig Roberts, a decorated Alpine skier, has come out as gay.The two-time U.S. national champion joins a small group of LGBTQ skiers who have come out publicly in a sport that The New York Times describes as ¡°closed and clubby.¡± That includes freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy, who revealed he is gay on ESPN in 2015.This makes the 29-year-old the first current or former male Alpine skier of his caliber to come out publicly in Alpine skiing, The Times reports. In an interview with The Times, Roberts said Alpine skiing has a hyper-masculine vibe and he was pressured to conform. He never got the opportunity to compete in the Olympics, but he was the first alternate in the 2018 Pyeongchang, according to Out Magazine.Still, Roberts told the magazine that he hopes to get involved with Olympic athletes in the future to foster spaces where athletes are comfortable to be themselves, while still working to be the best in their sports. 1522
