Cory, you campaigned with joy and heart, and instead of just talking about bringing people together, you did it every day. You made our politics better just by running. Grateful to you and looking forward to your continued leadership.— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) January 13, 2020 286

CORNING, Mo. — As the cleanup along the Missouri River continues following significant flooding last month, several communities are finally seeing what the floodwaters left behind.Flooding ravaged farmers along the Missouri Bottoms, including 71-year-old Bruce Biermann’s farm in Corning, Missouri. The fourth-generation farmer surveyed his farm on Wednesday. He said two grain bins containing corn and soybeans were destroyed. The strong current washed the bins into his front yard and even into neighboring fields.“They are now deteriorating, rotting, swelling up and sprouting,” Biermann said.He stored the grain because it was a down year for market value on the crops. He was hoping to sell when prices increased.“This year it wasn’t as attractive as we needed it or what we would have liked for it to be, but we needed to start moving grain,” he said.He learned a hard lesson: all of his grain is now ruined and will not be covered by insurance because stored crops aren’t covered under federal law.“All this would have to come out of our pocket, along with the loss of income from the grain that has no market value left whatsoever now,” Biermann said. The financial damage totals around 0,000 in lost grain.“That money was supposed to go ahead and help me finance and do my farming for 2019,” he said.Biermann won’t be in the fields this year. Over his 71 years, he said he's been through a lot of floods, but this one might be his last. With the possibility of more flooding on the way, Biermann hopes lawmakers make changes soon to help farmers in these situations. 1586

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A new report shows elder adult abuse increased significantly in the past 15 years.Centers for Disease Control and Precention (CDC) released the report showing a 75 percent increase in non-fatal assaults against men 60 and older, and a 35 percent increase against women 60 and older between 2002 and 2016.Dr. Jo Stecher, assistant director of the undergraduate nursing program at from Florida Gulf Coast University, says families should look for sure signs that can point to whether loved ones are getting abused.“They could pull back, they could guard themselves physically when certain people walk in the room,” Stecher said. “Fingerprints on the older adults upper arms where somebody has held onto them.”Stecher also points out that seniors with cognitive impairment could see situations differently and skew their reality.“What might be perceived as caring for them physically, might be abuse in their minds,” she said. She added that neglect is the most common form of abuse among persons 60 years and older.Dana Overton fears his mother is not getting the proper care at the hospital she’s currently staying. Overton claims hospital staff neglected his mother leading to bed sores and weakness in her legs.“They haven’t moved her. They’ve let her body just lay there largely for 30 days,” Overton said.He claims he filed a police report and a complaint with the Department of Children and Families.Overton says the biggest concern is his mother’s safety.“I blame myself that I brought her here. It may have happened at any hospital… I don’t know, but it makes me feel like I failed my mom,” Overton said. For more resources on this topic, below is a list of websites to check out:? CLEVELAND — A Florida cat who has been missing for eight years was found in Ohio. Barley was found by her family 10 years ago as a six-week-old kitten in a dumpster in Tampa Bay, according to a Facebook post by Angels for Animals, the Canfield, Ohio, animal shelter that identified the cat.Two years after her family found her, they moved to another home. During the move, Barley and her cat big brother Spike got outside and were never seen again. Barley traveled 1,100 miles to Canfield over eight years. She was brought in to Angels for Animals as a stray cat last week, and the staff discovered she was micro-chipped. On Wednesday, the shelter was able to get in touch with her owners in Florida. The shelter is now working with the family to figure out how to get Barley back to Florida. 805
