LIBREVILLE, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo held talks here on Friday with President of Gabonese National Assembly Guy Nzouba Ndama, saying that the National People's Congress (NPC) of China is ready to step up cooperation with the parliament of Gabon to add new vigor into bilateral relations and jointly push forward friendly relations between the two countries.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC, China's top legislature, called Gabon a true friend of China, saying that China is satisfied with the growth momentum of the bilateral relations and the two countries have seen healthy and stable development of friendly and cooperative relations since they established diplomatic ties 34 years ago.     Wu said that the two sides have achieved remarkable results in cooperation between governments, parliaments and various political parties in fields such as economy and trade, culture and education as well as public health. The two sides voiced commitment to boost the bilateral relations and enhance their cooperation to a higher level.     "The facts have already proved that the growth of the China-Gabon relations not only benefits the two countries and their people, but also helps to promote the peace and development of the world," Wu told Coniquet.     Wu arrived here on Thursday afternoon for a two-day official visit to Gabon. He will fly to Ethiopia on Saturday to continue his five-African nations tour, which also includes Algeria, Madagascar and Seychelles.

GENEVA, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The World Economic Forum (WEF) is "very proud" that it has managed to maintain "very positive" ties with China, a senior WEF official has said.     "We all know that China is an important factor in the future evolution and development of worldwide economy. So we are all very interested in what China will be doing," said Andre Schneider, managing director and chief operating officer of the Geneva-based organization.     In a recent interview with Xinhua before next week's opening of the 2009 WEF annual meeting, also known as the Davos Forum, in the Swiss Alpine skiing resort Davos.     More than 40 heads of state or government, including Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, and some 1,400 business leaders, have confirmed their participation at the five-day meeting scheduled to deal with the ongoing financial crisis and other global challenges.     Premier Wen's participation will certainly be "a unique opportunity" for the world to better understand what are the plans of the Chinese leadership to deal with the crisis, Schneider said.     Schneider noted the first two WEF annual meetings of the new champions, dubbed "Summer Davos Forum," were both held in China, in Dalian in 2007 and Tianjin a year later.     The success of the "Summer Davos Forum," a gathering of new multinational companies from China and across the world to explore the mechanisms of continued and sustainable growth, indicated the strong collaboration between the two sides, he said.     The WEF's choice of China as the host of the "Summer Davos Forum" was "an absolutely right one," he said.     Schneider noted that cooperation between the WEF and China started in 1979, when China first sent a delegation to the Davos Forum.     China and its economic growth has been a topic of interest for participants at the Davos Forum in recent years.     In June 2006, the organization opened a representative office in Beijing, which aims to deal with all interactions with China. "It's a clear sign of our deepened collaboration," he said.

BEIJING, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese exporters face an increased risk of not being paid for their goods as foreign banks run out of cash and some overseas importers evade paying debts, China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) warned Monday.     "The cases of malicious debt evasion and breach of contracts by importers in certain countries or regions are on the rise," said the ministry in a notice. It attributed the phenomenon to the impact of the deepening global financial crisis.     The MOC urged local governments, guilds and overseas Chinese businesses to more closely monitor the credit of foreign importers.     Priority should be placed on tracking the credit ratings of foreign lenders, it said.     The ministry also called on local governments to support the development of export credit insurance and encourage exporters to carry such insurance by reducing premiums.     From January to November last year, China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation (SINOSURE) provided 56.5 billion U.S. dollars of guarantee for exporters against credit risks such as payment default. That is 63.6 percent higher than the same period a year earlier. The reason for the increase is that more exporters sought insurance, company figures show.     SINOSURE is China's only policy insurance company undertaking export credit insurance.     In that period, SINOSURE paid 210 million U.S. dollars of indemnities, up 174.5 percent from the same period of 2007.     In December, the insurer reduced credit ratings for a record 48countries, including the United States. A total of 191 countries were reappraised in December.

BRUSSELS, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- The NATO secretary general on Monday praised the Chinese navy's anti-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia and indicated NATO's willingness to work with China on the issue. "I am applauding what is a rather unique position of the Chinese navy participating in the anti-piracy (campaign)," Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer told Chinese journalists at a NATO New Year reception.     "I do not exclude, at a certain stage, that when the United Nations would create a sort of roof under which these whole anti-piracy operations take place, NATO and China will meet under that roof," he said. BEIJING, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao has urged to implement the responsibility system which was designed 10 years ago for the building of a clean government and improvement of the Communist Party of China's (CPC) work style.     In his instructions for a teleconference held here on Monday to mark the tenth anniversary of the issuance of the responsibility system by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, Hu, also the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, said the responsibility system is fundamental for further pushing forward the building of a clean government, improvement of the Party's work style and the anti-corruption drive.     Hu said that the Party committees and governments at all levels had made remarkable achievements in improving the Party's work style, building a clean government and the anti-corruption drive in the past 10 years, but must be aware of the problems still existing.     He urged Party committees and governments of all levels to study and implement the essence of the 17th Party Congress and make strenuous efforts to gear up the improvement of the Party's work style, the building of a clean government and the anti-corruption drive.     Hu called for seriously carrying out the responsibility system, making substantial efforts to push forward the building of a mechanism for punishing and preventing corruption, further enhancing the ability of resolving the outstanding problems in improving the Party's work style and building a clean government so as to provide a favorable political guarantee for promoting scientific development and social harmony.     In addition to studying Hu's instructions, the participants in the teleconference also shared their experiences on the anti-corruption drive over the past 10 years.     Addressing the teleconference, He Guoqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and Secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, talked about how to implement the responsibility system by strengthening supervision and check on the implementation of the Party lines and policies so as to ensure the smooth implementation of Party's orders.
