GOLETA, Calif. (KGTV) - A rare sea creature that’s not supposed to live in the Northern Hemisphere surprised scientists by washing ashore in Goleta last week. The Mola tecta, more commonly known as the hoodwinker sunfish, is a rare species first identified in 2017, according to experts at University of California, Santa Barbara. UCSB reported the fish at Sands Beach in the university's Coal Oil Point Natural Reserve, the Associated Press reported. An intern alerted a reserve staffer who initially thought it was a type of local sunfish. “This is certainly the most remarkable organism I have seen wash up on the beach in my four years at the reserve,” said Jessica Nielsen, a conservation specialist at Coal Oil Point on the UCSB website. “It really was exciting to collect the photos and samples knowing that it could potentially be such an extraordinary sighting.” Scientists have not yet determine how the fish died. 932

(AP) -- Authorities say a thief took a break during his burglary of a Southern California pizzeria to make himself a pizza pie before fleeing with the restaurant's delivery car.Police say Oscar Sanchez broke into Big Slice Pizza in Fullerton, Calif., on Nov. 8. He was arrested on Wednesday and police posted security video of the pizza-making on Facebook on Friday.Officials say Sanchez allegedly also stole the pizzeria's cash and tablets.Security footage shows him stretching dough at the restaurant's counter.It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf. 620

Harris County, Texas Sheriff's deputies in Houston were forced to shut down an ATM in Houston on Sunday night after a huge crowd had gathered to take advantage of the machine dispersing 0 bills instead of bills, the Houston Chronicle reported. Rather than trying to recoup its losses, Bank of America announced that it would not force those who were able to snag the 0 bills to repay. “This was an incident at a single ATM in Houston caused when a vendor incorrectly loaded 0 bills in place of bills,” Bank of America said in a statement to the Chronicle. “We have resolved the matter. Customers will be able to keep the additional money dispensed.”KPRC-TV said that the crowd converged on the Houston ATM Sunday night after a man posted on social media, boasting about the transaction. Friends of Jamal Khashoggi, the dissident Saudi journalist killed in disputed circumstances in his country's consulate in Istanbul, have demanded that authorities in Riyadh produce his remains.After nearly three weeks in which it denied anything untoward had happened on in its diplomatic premises in Turkey, Saudi Arabia admitted Khashoggi had died but claimed it was the accidental result of a brawl.Turkish officials privately believe he was dismembered, and Saudi authorities have failed to produce his body or say where they where they believe it to be. All they would admit was that officials engaged in a cover-up.Speaking to reporters outside Saudi Arabia's Istanbul consulate Saturday, Turan Kislakci, the head of the Turkish Arab Media Association and a friend of Khashoggi, called on Saudi Arabia to hand over the journalist's body. (AP) — A man serving a life sentence in the death of his estranged wife led authorities to where he buried her body in Michigan eight years ago in exchange for an Xbox, according to authorities.Doug Stewart, 29, will also be allowed to participate in some prison programs, the Sturgis Journal reported.On Monday, he took detectives to a wooded area in Kalamazoo County where he had buried Venus Stewart, 32. He'd left two stumps at the site as a landmark."I knew I couldn't forget where she was," he told WWMT-TV.Doug Stewart was living in Virginia when his estranged wife disappeared in April 2010 from her parents' home in Michigan. Venus Stewart had moved after accusing her husband of domestic violence and molesting their daughter, according to police reports.Doug Stewart was convicted of first-degree murder in 2011, based largely on the testimony of Ricky Spencer. Spencer told authorities that he had been persuaded to impersonate Doug Stewart while the man drove to Michigan.Authorities have been visiting with Stewart annually since his sentencing to try and get information about the body's location."The criminal portion has been closed. We just kept at it to help find closure for Venus' family," said Michigan State Police Detective Sgt. Todd Peterson.Stewart had long maintained that he hadn't been involved in the killing, but said things changed when his sister began to reconcile with his wife's family.
