SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Officials have identified the recruit who died after going into cardiac arrest Sunday morning.The Marine Corps Recruit Deport says 21-year-old Private Patrick Armando Vega was pronounced dead just before noon on Sunday.A drill instructor found Vega unresponsive in his bed around midnight Sunday and conducted CPR. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police arrested a man Wednesday suspected of robbing a US Bank in North park before causing a major backup on I-5 in the South Bay. According to the FBI, Gustavo Torres, 32, was charged Thursday with one count of robbery. Torres is accused of robbing the US Bank on the 3200 block of University Avenue in North Park on August 7. Shortly after the robbery, San Diego Police were able to track down a suspect matching the bank robber’s description on Interstate 5 near Main Street in Chula Vista. Authorities shut down all lanes of southbound I-5 during the arrest, forcing traffic to a halt. According to the FBI, Torres is due in court for an arraignment on August 9. 696

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Nine drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol during a downtown San Diego checkpoint Friday night.The checkpoint was set up on the 1400 block of G Street between 11 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday.Throughout the course of the night, police checked more than 1,100 vehicles. Nine people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Another individual was arrested on other criminal charges, police said.“A major component of these checkpoints are the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired, bringing about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers,” police said in a news release. 711

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New bathrooms are in place downtown as San Diego deals with a hepatitis A outbreak that's affecting the homeless.Four new portable restrooms are located at the intersection of First Ave. and C St. near City Hall.  Crews will clean them at least twice per day and they will be monitored with full-time security, according to a City spokesperson. A hand washing station is also in the area."The installation of more public restrooms is important to stop the spread of hepatitis A," said Jonathan Herrera, the City's Senior Advisor on Homeless Coordination.
