(KGTV) - A destructive fire which caused .5 million in damage to the Off Road Warehouse in Kearny Mesa was arson, federal investigators announced Friday. Flames destroyed the business and 12,700-square-foot building at 7915 Balboa Ave. on March 28. San Diego Fire-Rescue investigators requested help from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to determine the origin of the fire. The fire is now an ongoing criminal investigation, the ATF said. (KGTV) — A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck the Mojave Desert area Wednesday.The quake was recorded at 1:40 p.m. in Trona, Calif., according to the US Geological Survey, and could be felt as far east as Las Vegas and as far west as Los Angeles. The earthquake had a depth of less than half a mile just north of Barstow.A 3.7-magnitude aftershock was recorded in the same area within the next hour.Sal Romo at Esparza family restaurant in Trona told 10News they definitely felt shaking but there wasn't any damage. Normally when they get quakes it's from Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake in Ridgecrest due to bombs going off or planes, he added.No damages or injuries were immediately reported. 704

(KGTV) - A U.S. Navy fighter jet crashed Wednesday morning near Naval Weapons Station China Lake in Central California, military officials said. The single-seat F/A-18E Super Hornet went down about 10 a.m. in Inyo County, Navy officials posted on Twitter. The jet, based at Naval Air Station Lemoore, was on a routine training flight. The cause of the crash is unknown.Death Valley National Park's public information officer Patrick Taylor said he received a call from the Panamint Springs Resort in Darwin of a military plane crash on the west side of Death Valley, near Father Crowley Overlook. The area is also known as "Star Wars Canyon" because the manuevers jets perform are similar to those in the film's battle scenes."We saw the smoke from it," an employee of the resort told 10News.There was no immediate word on the status of the pilot. Two aircraft were flying at the time, but the other pilot likely did not see the crash.Seven park visitors received minor injuries as a result of the crash.A search-and-rescue helicopter was sent to the scene, CNN reported. NWS China Lake and Inyo County sent officers to the area to guard the crash site, Taylor said. Temperatures at the crash site were in the low 100s Wednesday.The jet was part of VFA-151, a squadron belonging to Carrier Air Wing 9 and attached to USS John C. (KGTV) — A reminder to dog owners as hot weather settles into San Diego: Watch out for your pooch's paws.The general rule of thumb for hot weather is if it's too hot to put your hand on the ground, it's too hot for your dog's paws.In Medical Lake, Wash., a dog named Olaf is now recovering after its owner failed to properly protect his dog's paws. The Medical Lake Veterinary Hospital posted photos showing Olaf's pads burned off:"Olaf walked over a mile ... before his owner realized his pads were burned, and even then he wasn't whining or limping!" the hospital posted. "He is one tough cookie (and exceptionally sweet cookie.)"Olaf's owner told KEPR he didn't notice his dog's injury until he saw bloody paw prints on the ground and that the the injury exposed raw muscle.Veterinary experts suggest dog owners protect their dog's paws using pet boots, paw wax, or socks.
