(KGTV) - Instead of planning for a wedding, loved ones of a Camp Pendleton marine were holding a funeral this Memorial Day weekend.From the moment Kathleen Bourque met Conor McDowell off a dating app last summer in Washington D.C., it was electric."Insane, crazy, passionate ... He has a huge heart and always puts others before himself, and I was really drawn to that," said Kathleen.Four days later, the graduate of The Citadel asked her to move to San Diego as he reported for duty at Camp Pendleton. She said yes. During the cross-country trip, she wondered aloud, 'What are we doing?'""He said, 'Kathleen, trust is a choice ... We're both insane, but at least we're insane together, and give them something to talk about," said Kathleen.Together, they moved into an apartment in Cardiff and their love grew. Just before Conor, 24, left for a 10-day training maneuver earlier this month, he called his mother and told her the engagement ring made with grandma's diamond's was almost ready."He said,'When I return from maneuvers, I'm going to formally propose to Kathleen, I said that's so wonderful,'" said Susan Flanigan, Conor's mother. That proposal would never happen. During an exercise at Camp Pendleton on May 9th, the light armored reconnaissance vehicle he was riding in flipper over, injuring six other Marines and killing Conor.Conor's father, Michael McDonwell, says his son pushed another Marine into the vehicle to safety but couldn't save himself."It's devastating ... He was a person who lived his life to the fullest with great kindness, love and integrity," said Flanigan."I am shattered. My heart has been ripped out of my chest. I was his life and he was mine. I have lost a part of myself in losing him," said Kathleen.This weekend, loved ones held a funeral in Conor's hometown in Maryland. The bagpipes he had wanted for his wedding played instead at his service."He was the strongest person I knew. He taught me how to find the strength I didn't know I even had," said Kathleen.A memorial will be held at Camp Pendleton in early June, before a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Certain grocery stores are opening DSW, Designer Shoe Warehouse, shop-in-shops.Hy-Vee announced the partnership this week, saying two of their locations in the Twin Cities area have DSW displays inside with four more locations scheduled to open in the next few weeks.The DSW shop-in-shops will allow customers to try on shoes, selecting from a variety of styles and brands. Some stores will have lockers, allowing customers to order shoes online and pick them up in Hy-Vee stores.The shop-in-shop set-ups feature a wall of 100 shoes displaying top trends of the season. (CNS) -- Three wildfires continued burning across open terrain on the grounds of Camp Pendleton Wednesday, sending plumes of smoke over northern San Diego County but posing no threats to military or civilian structures.The flames began spreading through training areas toward the center of the Marine Corps base on Monday.As of Wednesday afternoon, base officials said one of the fires, dubbed the Wood Fire, has burned 7,000 acres and is 20 percent contained.A second fire, called the India Fire, has burned 1,100 acres and is 20 percent contained.A third fire named the Range Fire is burning in the Range 706 Yankee impact area and has charred 500 acres, according to base officials.Base officials said the fires are expected to produce smoke through the remainder of the day, and the fires are not posing a threat on or off the base.Military firefighters have been aided by Cal Fire ground and airborne crews in their effort to corral the blazes.Officials have disclosed no cause for the fires. CHANDLER, Ariz. - A woman in the East Valley of Arizona was stung by bees more than 200 times and a few fellow runners just happened to be in the right place--and the right time--to help.Usually cooler weather keeps bees away, but with more trees and flowers in bloom after the recent rain, experts say the bees are sticking around."I was taking my dog out for a walk, it's a normal route," said Marisa Brazil.Her daily routine along Paseo Trail in Chandler took a terrifying turn Monday morning."She was starting to flail her arms and I kind of looked at my best friend, Julie, and said, 'she's either having a really good time or something's happening,'" Brazil said.It did not take long for both women to realize something terrible was happening to the runner ahead of them on the trail."She was really screaming, like loud," said Julie Sternberg. The trained lifeguard ran to help while Brazil called 911."I tried to run up the other side and then some bees came at me," Sternberg said.Sternberg was stung on her head as the bees forced her back. She then saw two other strangers battling their way forward."They kept retreating. So at that point once I figured out there was bees, I figured out that's why. I saw one guy kept moving back," said Sternberg. "She was still screaming the whole entire time, so it was pretty scary," said Brazil.First responders eventually took over. The woman who was stung posted to Facebook from her hospital bed, thanking the strangers who tried to help. The woman who was stung is expected to recover.
