SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A potential partnership between the San Diego Unified School District and UC San Diego could help prevent the spread of the coronavirus within the school district.On Tuesday, officials with SD Unified and UC San Diego will discuss a collaborative effort that will provide COVID-19 testing -- with rapid results -- for district students and staff members every two weeks.Under the proposed testing program, all students and staff would be tested even if no symptoms are shown. The plan is to get their more than 100,000 students and 15,000 staff members tested twice a month.School Board Vice President Richard Barrera said, “We can’t wait for the federal and state government to provide so we can reopen our schools. We have to take the initiative ourselves ... being able to test on our campuses both students and staff is the best way to get large numbers of people being tested. UC San Diego would bring health professionals onto our campuses to do the testing.”San Diego Unified School District schools are currently in Phase One of the district's reopening plan. Under Phase One, which began Oct. 13, teachers have returned to campuses to provide appointment-based, in-person instruction for elementary school students identified as having “the greatest needs.”Phase Two of the district’s reopening plan would begin for elementary school students on Jan. 4, 2021. Social conservatives on the other hand take a different sort of position on it – they tend to support traditional gender hierarchies that are less likely to push for or to support women’s rights in variety of positions in politics, in economics, in the workplace. They tend to support some of those more traditional roles that women hold.”Dr. Montoya says she believes the Supreme Court ruling on Roe v. Wade has already been undermined, impacting access to contraceptives in general. Dr. Daniel Grossman – a professor in obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences at the University of California—echoes the same observation.“We’ve already seen a significant erosion of the guarantee for access to a full range to contraceptive methods in the affordable care act with an increasing number of categories of employers that are able to deny their employees this benefit,” Dr. Grossman said.Dr. Grossman says a Supreme Court with Judge Barrett would potentially continue what he believes is an erosion of women’s reproductive health rights. Montoya notes states have been given more flexibility the past few decades when determining reproductive rights and that will likely continue is Judge Barrett is confirmed.“We can expect with a 6-3 conservative split, and one that’s very heavily weighted with social conservatives versus libertarians, that we’ll continue in that direction, that we’ll continue to see precedence that gives states more leeway that dictate how they’re going to define reproductive rights or abortion rights for women,” Dr. Montoya said.What Judge Barrett has shared in the hearings is that although she was nominated to succeed Ginsburg, no one could take her place. Yosemite National Park is investigating about 170 reports of gastrointestinal illnesses and has confirmed two cases of norovirus, officials said Thursday.The National Park Service began investigating after visitors and employees started reporting illnesses this month. Most cases occurred in early January.“We’ve had very few the last week or so,” park spokesman Scott Gediman said. “We’re hoping that we’re over the hump.”Norovirus is highly contagious and can be spread through direct contact with an infected person, touching a contaminated surface or eating or drinking contaminated food. It can cause vomiting and diarrhea and its symptoms are especially severe for elderly people, young children and people with health issues.Most of those who reported becoming sick in Yosemite had symptoms consistent with norovirus, although some might have had food poisoning or the flu, Gediman said.The origin of the outbreak was unclear.
