(KGTV) - One person is dead after a car crash left a vehicle nearly split in the North County at 1:50 a.m. Saturday morning.The crash occurred on Old Castle Road at Gordon Hill Rd. Police found the vehicle nearly split by a tree. The teenage driver was taken to a nearby hospital but died.Police did not name the driver but said he was 20-years-old from Oceanside.A teen passenger in the vehicle also suffered minor injuries but is expected to recover.Investigators said they believe speed played a factor in the crash and the vehicle may have been racing. 616

(AP) — Two boys were fatally shot while sitting in a van outside an elementary school early Saturday morning, police said.The shootings of the boys, ages 11 and 14, took place in the parking lot of Searles Elementary School, the East Bay Times reported.Callers to 911 reported hearing gunfire at 1:26 a.m., the newspaper said. Authorities said that when officers arrived, they found the boys.The older boy died at the scene, and the younger child died en route to a trauma center, the Times reported.New Haven Unified School District Superintendent John Thompson said in a statement that the victims were minors.The boys attended schools in the district, Thompson and a district spokesman said.No arrests have been made in connection with the killings.Police Lt. Steve Mendez said there was no sign of a connection between the shooting and the school where it took place. People occasionally gather in the relatively secluded parking lot, Mendez told the Times.Thompson said the school district “will have support for our students and staff at the sites where these students attended when school resumes after the Thanksgiving break.”The district also will work with the Union City Police Department “to ensure that our schools are as safe as they can be,” he said.Police are investigating the possibility that an earlier shooting may be related to the slayings, the Times reported. Revered by the community, regarded as one of college basketball's greatest coaches of all-time, Olson brought a sense of pride to Arizona’s basketball program, and to southern Arizona.He led the Wildcats to four final four appearances including a national championship, and an amazing 23 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.Yet the legendary Arizona wildcat basketball coach didn't arrive in Tucson until he was close to fifty years old.Olson was born in North Dakota and began his career coaching high school teams, first in Minnesota, then in California.Olson taught his teams to want more - to reach for a dream - and drive for perfection. He compiled a 24-2 record in his only season at Long Beach State.That was followed by the University of Iowa, where he led the Hawkeyes to the 1980 Final Four.Three years later, Olson surprised the college basketball world, leaving the Big Ten power for an Arizona Wildcat program coming off a 4-24 season.Olson made a bold statement, advising fans in April of 1983 that they should get their tickets now.Just two years later, Arizona was a winner.Olson turned down other college opportunities, saying that Tucson was his home. He would also decline offers from the NBA.“I love coaching college guys because you can just see them grow from kids to young men before they move on,” he said in a 2016 interview.His first Wildcat Final four team came in 1988. It was a beloved group made up of not just basketball stars, but those who would be successful in other walks of life – including record producer Harvey Mason, baseball great Kenny Lofton and of course, Steve Kerr. 1849

United Airlines is looking to add flights to their schedule in October, including resuming previously canceled trips and adding new ones.According to the airline, this will bring them up to flying 40 percent of their full schedule in October compared to October 2019. In September, they are only expecting to fly 34 percent of their full schedule.The news comes a week after the airline announced it will furlough more than 16,000 employees in October. That’s when federal bailout money from the federal government expires.The resumed flights include eight routes to Hawaii, “pending approval of the state’s pre-arrival COVID testing program.” Hawaii recently extended their out-of-state visitors ban to October 1. Once they allow visitors and tourists again, travelers must fill out a “safe travels” form and go through pandemic screening measures."We continue to be data-driven and realistic in our approach to rebuilding our network," Ankit Gupta, United's vice president of Domestic Network Planning said in a press release. "Because October is typically a slower month for leisure travel, we're adjusting our schedules to reflect these seasonal changes in customer demand while resuming service or adding capacity on routes where we're seeing increased customer demand for travel."Some of those “data-driven” decisions may have led United to realign their schedule to match “current demand for leisure travel.” The airline says in October they will add more flights on days popular with leisure travelers looking for a long weekend getaway, and will schedule fewer flights on days where demand is lower.Other changes and additions in October include:Resuming or starting new service on nearly 50 routes in the US; mostly from United’s hubs in Chicago, Denver and Houston.Resuming additional service to Florida and along the west coast.Resuming service to 14 international destinations, including parts of South America and Mexico.United was one of the airlines last week who announced they will be permanently eliminating change fees on flights within the US.
