ESCONDIDO (KGTV) - In one of the closest races this election cycle in San Diego County, Escondido Mayor Sam Abed added nine votes to his narrow lead Tuesday. He now holds a 29-vote advantage over challenger Paul McNamara.Abed is seeking a third term as mayor, first winning in 2010. He was previously a councilman from 2004-2010.Political analyst John Dadian told 10News he did not anticipate the race being so close. "I did not see it coming, so I am suprised. Going into the last week of the campaign, all the people I talked to that really know that area well, they did not see this coming."Dadian feels several factors are playing a role in tightening the race. He cites changing demographics in Escondido, pulling away from the city's long-time conservative majority. Another conservative incumbent, Ed Gallo, appears to be losing his seat, as well.In addition, Democrats in the region had a large turnout, based largely on the unsuccessful effort to oust Congressman Duncan Hunter. That large turnout may have had a down-ballot effect on the mayoral race.Dadian also sites Abed's controversial stance on immigration, leading Escondido's bid to support efforts against California's sanctuary laws and visiting the White House for a highly-publicized meeting with President Trump. Dadian believes that may have helped enthuse opposition against Abed.As of Tuesday night, Registrar of Voters Michael Vu says there are still 299,000 ballots to count county-wide. (KGTV) — Six people were arrested Thursday one day after a fatal stabbing at an Escondido park.Police say they arrested six juveniles, ranging in age from 14 to 17 years old, for homicide in connection with the death of 37-year-old Mauricio Renteria, of Escondido.Police say a group of roughly 20 people were involved in a fight at Grove Park shortly before 8:30 Wednesday night. Officers responded to find Renteria with multiple stab wounds and head trauma on the ground. He was pronounced dead at Palomar Hospital.Police said all six people have been booked into juvenile hall for charges of homicide with a criminal street gang enhancement.Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact Escondido police at 760-839-4722 or 760-743-8477. 779

Facebook users in the United States who want to run certain ads on the platform will need to hand over the last four digits of their social security number and a picture of a government-issued ID.The social network now requires anyone who wants to run ads related to political campaigns, civil rights, immigration, guns, economy, and other issues, to prove they're in the United States. Part of the proof required is the last four digits of your Social Security number.The move is part of a series of initiatives by Facebook to increase transparency on the platform after a Russian government-linked troll group spent thousands of rubles?on Facebook ads targeting Americsans ahead of the 2016 presidential election.In addition to a Social Security number, users wishing to buy ads will need to provide a picture of a government-issued ID and a US mailing address. Once Facebook verifies the information submitted, the company will mail a code to the provided address to authorize the user's Facebook account to buy ads.Facebook declined to share what services it uses to verify Social Security numbers and other personal details.
