A Port St. Lucie man is recovering after he was bitten on the leg by an 8-foot alligator while walking his dog over the weekend, authorities said.According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Mark Johnson, 61, was attacked near a canal in a Port St. Lucie development around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday."I kind of slide and my foot is stuck in the mud, and the next thing I know, I see the lunge," Johnson said. "He starts clamping down pretty tight and he started to pull, and the next thing I do, I instantly, here's my fingers, I poke through the eye."Johnson said the gator was trying to drag him under the water, spinning while clamping down on the victim's leg."This gator was coming in fast. He was aggressive," Johnson said. "My foot was hanging out of the corner of his mouth."Johnson said that after he poked the gator in the eye, it let go of his leg and took off."I had to do something. That's what I say, you have seconds to react," Johnson said.The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he received 62 stitches in his right left and was later released.Johnson said his dog Rex was not hurt.The FWC said an alligator trapper responded to the area of the attack and captured an 8-foot gator. Bill Chavez has always been fascinated with big trucks. He comes from a long line of truckers, which is one of the reasons he’s devoted his life for 39 years to the profession. To most people, Chavez’s truck looks like any traditional semi. However, it’s not ordinary, because with a push of a button, it can drive itself. “What we’re trying to do is create the world’s safest self-driving trucks,” says Chuck Price, the chief product officer of TuSimple, the company behind the self-driving semis. TuSimple is currently operating 15 self-driving semis, and Price says by June, they'll have three times that number. “This is actually a laser radar unit; we call it lidar, built into the mirror. This gives us a close-in view,” Price describes. “Then, we have cameras along the top of the vehicle that show us…much further away.” TuSimple’s trucks are already in the southwest part of the country, on interstates across the region. "Our systems see farther, track more objects and respond faster than a human can operate," Price says. Right now, a human must be in the trucks at all times as back-up protocol, but the company says a fully self-driving semi could happen by 2020. The company says when that day comes, it will alleviate one of the industry's biggest problems.Tony Bradley, with the Arizona Trucking Association, says nationwide they're currently 50,000 drivers short. "This is the worst shortage we've seen in the history of trucking,” Bradley stresses. Bradley says 15 years from now, the shortage could be as high as 200,000, thanks to the large number of drivers approaching retirement age. "It's a job that is frankly, not very glamorous," Bradley says. However, the job continues to be appealing to Chavez. "It's just very enjoyable to be out there on the road and being your own boss," Chavez says. He knows that a time may come where drivers might be replaced by this technology. However, he's OK with that idea and says roads will be safer for everyone. Having easy access to Mario’s first three 2D adventures provides an easy way to experience the evolution and improvements made with each entry. Most importantly, all three of those games still hold up in 2020. When it comes to Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a package that includes Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy, this is not the case, but that doesn’t mean Nintendo’s new collection on the Switch is one to overlook. Mario’s first 3D adventure is arguably one of the most important video games of all time, but mamma-mia, has this game aged poorly. As soon as I jumped into the Bob-omb Battlefield course at the start, my gaming brain was startled by the game’s awful camera system, which makes completing an objective far more frustrating than I remember in 1996. Obtaining stars on each course is still exhilarating, but the excitement stemmed from the relief of conquering the awkward jumping angles, rather than accomplishing the task at hand. When it comes to visuals, the game looks exactly how you remember, albeit a bit smoother in some textures. It even retains the 4:3 aspect ratio. If you’re looking to experience the origins of 3D Mario titles, give this a look, if just for a nostalgia fill and move on. Originally on the only console to ever feature a handle, the Nintendo Gamecube, this game is worth a second look. Sunshine’s verticality, combined with its open-world structure, feels surprisingly modern and its difficulty remains among the highest in the Mario series, even if it’s sometimes unintentional due to the game’s bugginess. Controlling Mario with his water-filled jet pack still feels unlike anything else in the series, making for some literal refreshing mechanics that I enjoyed during my playthrough. From an art standpoint, I absolutely adore the colorful, tropical look of Isle Delfino and the characters that populate it. It’s not the best 3D Mario game, but don’t overlook this nautical adventure. Image from Nintendo.com Super Mario GalaxyThis was my first time experiencing Mario’s outer space escapade. If you told me this game came out this generation, you could easily fool me. Super Mario Galaxy hasn’t aged a day since its release in 2007. Its space-aesthetic rivals the art direction of any Nintendo Switch game to date, and its tight controls feel fantastic. Running around bite-sized planets, playing with gravity, and that launching into the next world animation makes me want to stop writing this review and go play it right now. I am cherishing the number of stars I have left to collect. It’s a real shame that Super Mario Galaxy 2 was left off of this collection. Perhaps it’s time to go dig out my Wii to experience the sequel. Galaxy is reason enough to purchase this bundle, even at the slightly steep price point.The full packageSuper Mario 3D All-Stars is just the meat and potatoes without any added junk food to consume. Aside from a playlist of 175 iconic Mario jams to listen to separately, this collection has zero special features. I would have loved to see a documentary about the making of these games, or even some never-before-seen sketches when the game was in its early stages. Instead, we’re simply left with the bare minimum of the three original games with some slightly improved visuals. Still, though, this is the easiest way to play these titles in 2020. If you’re on the fence about purchasing, this game is only available until March 31, 2021, according to Nintendo. Documents show some of the moments leading up to Kyle Rittenhouse's arrest in the early morning hours after he allegedly shot and killed two protesters in Kenosha. The documents also conclude Rittenhouse did not transport a rifle across state lines.The documents contained redactions.The 17-page incident report describes the three hours Rittenhouse and his mother spent at Antioch's police headquarters, located in Rittenhouse's hometown, as well as the police department's investigation into the history of two rifles, one of which was allegedly handled by Rittenhouse in Kenosha.Rittenhouse was charged with first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree reckless homicide for the shooting deaths of Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum during unrest in Kenosha on Aug. 25. On Friday, an Illinois judge granted permission for Rittenhouse to be extradited to Wisconsin to face those charges. The Kenosha County Sheriff confirms Rittenhouse has been brought back to Wisconsin.According to the incident report, Rittenhouse and his mother arrived at the Antioch police station just after 1 a.m. on Aug. 26 after the Kenosha shooting. Responding officers recounted that the 17-year-old "immediately became emotional" and began crying, saying that he had "ended a man's life," the report states. An officer there noted that Rittenhouse appeared to be wearing the same clothes the officer saw worn by a man involved in the Kenosha shooting via Facebook Live.Rittenhouse told the officers that he was "hired" to protect businesses in Kenosha during the unrest. Rittenhouse's mother made a comment that Rittenhouse may have hurt a man, and Rittenhouse interrupted her, exclaiming "he's dead," according to the report.Rittenhouse continued that he attempted to speak with a Kenosha police officer in Kenosha about the shooting on that night, "but was told to go home," the report states. Sometime later, Rittenhouse told the officers that "I shot two white kids," the report states.Still in the lobby of the police station, Rittenhouse inquired about one of his friends, and his sisters, who were at the family's apartment in Antioch. Antioch police identified the friend, but we have chosen not to identify a person who has not been charged for breaking the law.Rittenhouse continued that the friend was with him in Kenosha, but at some point that night they had split up. Rittenhouse said his friend "currently had his rifle," the report states.Rittenhouse and his mother were escorted into an interview room a little over an hour later.Antioch officers proceeded to Rittenhouse's family apartment and spoke with Rittenhouse's friend and the sisters. When asked, Rittenhouse's friend told the officers that he had Rittenhouse's "AR," saying it was in the trunk of his vehicle. Rittenhouse's friend consented to a search of his car, officers write in the report.The criminal complaint filed against Rittenhouse reported that the friend in question was the person whom Rittenhouse had called on the night of the shooting.Later that morning, around 7:45 a.m., Rittenhouse apparently began having trouble breathing, the report states. The Antioch fire department arrived to give aid.A valid temporary felony warrant for first-degree intention homicide - body only was then filed, and Rittenhouse was booked. A judge then denied Rittenhouse bond.The next day, Aug. 27, Antioch police arrived at the home of Rittenhouse's friend's stepfather, living in Kenosha. The stepfather told the officers that Rittenhouse's friend had purchased a rifle over a year ago. He said Rittenhouse's friend then purchased a second rifle for Rittenhouse, using Rittenhouse's money. The stepfather told the officers that both rifles were purchased in Wisconsin, according to the incident report.The stepfather said that when he learned his stepson had purchased the gun for Rittenhouse, he refused to have the weapon stored anywhere other than his locked safe at his home in Kenosha. Following a trip to northern Wisconsin with Rittenhouse and his friend, the stepfather told officers he then locked Rittenhouse's rifle in his gun safe because he was underage.The stepfather continued that on Aug. 24, following the police shooting of Jacob Blake, he decided to transport the rifle from his gun safe into the basement of his residence, to be used for protection. The stepfather later had a phone call with Rittenhouse's friend, who said he and Rittenhouse had been hired as security for businesses in Kenosha, police explain in the incident report.Two days later, on Aug. 26, when the stepfather said he was preparing to leave Kenosha due to the unrest and the Kenosha shooting, he discovered that Rittenhouse's rifle was no longer in the basement, where the stepfather had left it. The stepfather told Antioch police he believes Rittenhouse and his stepson took the rifle, the report states.The Antioch police department's incident report also describes another interview between officers and Rittenhouse's friend. In that interview, Rittenhouse's friend said he had been on the roof of a building in Kenosha and did not witness the shooting. He said Rittenhouse had called his friend at some point after the shooting. They met up and drove in the friend's car.Rittenhouse's friend also told the officers that he and Rittenhouse both had rifles that night. The friend said he had dissembled his rifle, while Rittenhouse left his assembled, both left in the trunk of his friend's car.As described earlier, Antioch police officers searched Rittenhouse's friend's car. They found both the assembled and disassembled rifles in the truck.In a third interview described in the incident report, Rittenhouse's friend told Kenosha police detectives that Rittenhouse had obtained his rifle from his stepfather's house before they left for downtown Kenosha. The friend added that he had told Rittenhouse earlier, "in all reality, you are not supposed to have that gun. That gun was in my name."An investigation by Antioch police eventually concluded on Sept 2. that the friend did buy both rifles, one with Rittenhouse's money. The investigation further concluded that both rifles were purchased in Wisconsin, and that Rittenhouse's rifle stayed in Wisconsin until it was brought across state lines in his friend's car to Antioch following the Kenosha shooting.But the investigation also noted at the time that there is no evidence suggesting the same rifle was physically possessed by Rittenhouse in Illinois. PARADISE, Calif. – Parts of California are going dark and some people are taking it personally. “It’s like a slap in the face,” said Paradise, California, resident Jonathan Valdez. “It’s like we have to keep suffering over and over again.” Valdez stocked up on gas for his generators after Pacific Gas and Electric warned it could shut off power to almost 200,000 people across the state in an attempt to lower the risks of wildfires. “Gas went up so I’m kind of sweating it a little bit,” Valdez said. “It’s another extra dollar for each can and we have to do this every day.” Several businesses say the power shutdowns have hurt their sales. “People can’t work, people can’t pay their bills,” said a worker at the local gas station. “And people up here in California, we live paycheck to paycheck.” The employee says the gas station lost products without electricity. She added many feel in the Northern California community that they’re being targeted by the power company. “A lot of people think they’re doing it to get back at the people of Paradise,” she said. Getting back because several people are now suing PG&E after investigations found their equipment started the Camp Fire – the most expensive and deadly wildfire in California history. Paul Moreno of PG&E says these planned power outages aren’t happening out of revenge – they are happening to keep cities and citizens safe. “No. No. There’s nothing like that. This is being done for public safety,” Moreno said. “Last time we did a public safety power shutoff, we found 100 cases of damage caused by high winds to our powerlines any number of those could have started a fire. With the high winds it could have been catastrophic.” These potentially catastrophic conditions have first responders on high alert. “It’s really flammable and fire is really dynamic,” said Rick Carhart of Cal Fire Butte County. Carhart says Cal Fire has increased staffing after issuing a Red Flag Warning – adding people need to take safety into their own hands. "You need to have 10 feet of an area around the generator down to bare dirt," he said. Having a plan in place, just like the local schools. After closing classes for three days during another power shutoff, Paradise Junior and High Schools aren’t taking any chances this time. Staff will use lanterns to light classes and plan on running generators to access the internet. “That may sound strange, but we ran a school out of a hardware store last year,” said Larry Johnson, Principal at Paradise Junior & Senior High School. “So, a couple of lanterns, you know, we got this.” Town officials, however, aren’t as optimistic. “There’s not a lot we can do about it,” said Paradise Mayor Jody Jones. “We don’t even have generators that the town has.” Jones isn’t pleased with PG&E. And after seeing much of her city go up in flames, she’s now calling them out – saying PG&E should have spent more money on maintenance. “I think there’s a lot of evidence that they haven’t been doing the maintenance that they need to do doing,” she said. “I wish that they would have invested in their system.” When the power did go out in Paradise, some had their own systems in place. Nicki Jones of Nic’s Food, Beer and Wine bought a generator to keep her business up and running. Saying it’s an investment for both her and her customers. “We’re able to serve the community,” she said. “We open up at 7 a.m. We serve coffee and we have a gathering place for the community.” Those looking to travel out of this community, however, may have a hard time. “Everything else is closed,” a local man said. “So, I’m going to have to get gas in Chico.” Back at the local gas station, people found the doors chained up and pumps shutdown. “It’s a big inconvenience going down to Chico,” the man said. “Everything in Magalia is closed and everything in Paradise is closed.” But despite the hardships, people are staying positive during these planned power shutoffs and seeing light in this time of darkness.“We’re Paradise strong,” Jody Jones said. “We’re pioneers.
