HARAHAN, La. — In Kimberly Broussard’s kitchen, there are layers upon layers of love.“I love to cook,” she said. “It's just yummy and it's full of cheese and it's gooey.”Broussard is in the midst of her new weekly tradition: making lasagna for someone she’s never met.“The thing weighs about six pounds. It’s pretty heavy,” she said.Broussard is a volunteer with Lasagna Love.“Food is love,” she said. It’s a program that began during the pandemic, in the kitchen of founder Rhiannon Menn.“I remember just feeling so helpless and watching people around me lose jobs, lose child care,” Menn said. So, the San Diego mom offered to make a meal for anyone in need in her area.“I posted to some local mom’s groups on Facebook, 'Hey, you know if you're struggling, whatever that looks like for you-- if it's financial, if it's emotional, if you're immunocompromised and can't go to the grocery store--my daughter and I are making extra meals. Like, please let us bring you dinner.' And people said yes,” she said. With that, Lasagna Love was born as people contacted Menn to ask if they could help, too. The registered nonprofit now has “Lasagna Mama and Papa” volunteers in all 50 states, with a website where you can request a meal or offer to make one.“I'm just so inspired and a little bit in awe of how many people there are that want to be part of this, spreading kindness,” Menn said.Back in Kimberly Broussard’s Louisiana kitchen, her latest lasagna will soon be ready to be dropped off to a family in need. She’s made nearly 20 for Lasagna Love.“Just the thought of families not being able to eat, it was just a way to help,” Broussard said, “and it's just a way to say, ‘hey, look, you know, yeah, you're struggling, but there are people out there that care.’”It’s a way of caring for one another, using food as a language of love. 1840

GREELEY, Colorado — Authorities released Monday the autopsy reports of Shanann Watts, 34; Bella Watts, 4; and Celeste Watts, 3. The reports concluded that all three victims died of asphyxiation — Shanann was strangled while the two girls were smothered, according to the reports. The reports had been sealed until the outcome of the trial. However, Chris Watts — Shanann’s husband and father of Bella and Celeste — pleaded guilty to their murders earlier this month and was sentenced Monday to life in prison without the possibility of parole. All three victims were pronounced deceased on Aug. 16. The girls' bodies were found submerged in an oil tank on property owned by the company Watts worked for. His wife's body was found in a shallow grave nearby. The autopsy reports state that Shanann Watts was found in a purple T-shirt and underwear. She had patterned abrasions on her neck and the left side of her face when her body was found. Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke said during sentencing Monday that the lack of significant injuries to Shanann Watts suggested that her death came slowly. The coroner noted in the report that Shanann had been in the second trimester of pregnancy at the time of her murder. Family members had called the unborn child “Nico.” Chris Watts was convicted of unlawful termination of a pregnancy. Bella’s report indicates she had a pink pajama-type top with images of hearts and butterflies and underwear on when her body was found. The coroner found blunt force trauma on Bella’s jaw and lacerations and contusions in her mouth. Her left shoulder was discolored, and teeth impressions and superficial bite marks were found on the surface of Bella’s tongue — signs, Rourke said, Bella "fought for her life." Celeste was found in a pink and black T-shirt. The 3-year-old was wearing a diaper and underwear. Celeste had no visible injuries.Prosecutors said Chris Watts was having an affair and making plans for a new life. Rourke said Watts talked with a real estate agent about selling the family's home, looked up secluded vacation spots and didn't seem interested in the self-help books his wife provided.A friend asked police to check on Shanann Watts on Aug. 13 after not being able to reach her and grew concerned that the expectant mother had missed a doctor's appointment. Watts spoke to Denver7 from the front porch of the family's home in Frederick, pleading for his family’s safe return. Within days he was in custody, charged with killing his family. The Associated Press contributed to this report.  2612

Gina Haspel, President Donald Trump's pick to be the next CIA director, pledged Wednesday she would not restart the CIA's detention and interrogation program and that she would not follow an order that she found morally objectionable."I would not allow CIA to undertake activity that I thought was immoral, even if it was technically legal," Haspel said. "I would absolutely not permit it."Haspel was pressed at her confirmation hearing by Senate Intelligence Committee's top Democrat Virginia Sen. Mark Warner and other Democrats about her views on the George W. Bush administration's interrogation program as well as her role in it. 642

GLENDORA, Calif. (CNS) - A chase suspect who allegedly stole drills led authorities on an over two-hour pursuit Tuesday afternoon from Glendora to downtown Los Angeles, at one point stopping at a gas station to fill up his tank. The chase started about 4:10 p.m. after the suspect allegedly stole drills from The Home Depot store located at 1305 S. Lone Hill Ave., according to Lt. James De Mond of the Glendale Police Department.By 5:10 p.m., the suspect was in the unincorporated Avocado Heights area near Industry, where he pulled into a gas station near Valley Boulevard and Santa Mariana Avenue. It appeared that one person ran from the vehicle, and the driver stood outside the vehicle for a couple of minutes before getting back inside and driving westbound on Valley Boulevard.Shortly after, the suspect pulled into another gas station near Valley Boulevard and Peck Road, and ran inside the store to apparently pay for gasoline. He pumped gas briefly then got back onto Valley Boulevard. He drove on multiple freeways throughout the pursuit, including the Long Beach (710), San Bernardino (10), Pomona (60) and Santa Ana (101) freeways, where he exited at Fourth Street and drove into downtown Los Angeles. It was not immediately clear what happened to the suspect after he entered downtown Los Angeles about 6:20 p.m. 1331
