It’s not responsible for them to put you on this flight.”Chicago-based Boeing said Wednesday it has flown more than 1,400 test flights on updated Max planes. The FAA said its people put in 60,000 hours reviewing and testing Boeing’s work.American is likely to be the only U.S. carrier using the Max for several weeks. United Airlines expects to put the plane back in its schedule during the first quarter of next year, with Southwest following in the second quarter. An emergency bill in California will continue the state's moratorium on evictions for nonpayment, but evictions could resume in February.The deal, reached Friday, will avoid what some had dubbed the eviction cliff that was set to begin Sept. 1. That was when the Judicial Council's order stopping courthouses from taking nonpayment eviction cases was going to expire. This bill, called the COVID-19 Tenant Relief Act of 2020, does two major things to protect tenants:1) It converts unpaid rent from March 1 to Aug. 31 to civil debt, meaning a tenant cannot be evicted for nonpayment. Instead, that person can ultimately be taken to small claims court. 2) It prevents eviction of tenants who pay at least 25 percent of their rent from Sept. 1. to Jan 31, 2021. If a tenant pays at least 25 percent, the rest would be converted to civil debt. Otherwise, a landlord can begin eviction proceedings Feb. 1, 2021. Gov. Newsom announced the deal Friday, saying he would sign the bill once it reaches his desk. The Southern California Rental Housing Association expressed major concerns about the legislation, saying it does not protect against financial ruin for landlords. In a statement, it said the bill doesn't provide rental income assistance, and does not guarantee landlords will ever get the money they are owed.The bill requires a two-thirds vote, and is expected to be taken up in both houses of the state legislature Monday. 1437

As of 3:30 a.m. ET, Democrats have flipped two seats in their favor, while Republicans have flipped six, resulting in a net gain for the GOP of four. Democrats can afford to lose 14 seats and retain a majority in the House.All six seats Republicans flipped on Tuesday were ones that Democrats flipped in 2018. The two seats gained by Democrats both came in North Carolina. Deborah Ross took the state’s second congressional district, while Kathy Manning won the state’s sixth congressional district. Both seats were open as the two GOP incumbents were not in the general election.The Republicans gained a seat in Florida’s 26th district as Carlos Gimenez upended incumbent Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. Mucarsel-Powell was only a one-term member of Congress as she herself defeated an incumbent GOP representative. American Airlines said Wednesday evening that it was moving ahead with furloughs for 19,000 employees as CARES Act stimulus funds expire.In a letter to employees, American Airlines CEO Doug Parker said the furloughs would begin Thursday."Despite enormous bipartisan support for an extension of the (Payroll Support Program), our elected officials have not been able to reach agreement on a COVID-19 relief package that would enable this extension," Parker wrote.
