CORONA, Calif. (AP) — A gunman opened fire inside a Southern California Costco during an argument Friday night, killing a man, wounding two other people and sparking a stampede of terrified shoppers before he was taken into custody, police said.Police swarmed the Costco after shots were reported at the huge store about 50 miles (80.5 kilometers) southeast of downtown Los Angeles.Witnesses told KCAL-TV that a man with a Mohawk haircut was arguing with someone near a freezer section when he pulled a gun and fired at least six shots.The man involved in the argument was killed and two other people were wounded, Corona police Lt. Jeff Edwards said. In a release issued after 1 a.m. Saturday, Corona police said their conditions were unknown.The suspected gunman was apprehended, said he was injured and was taken to the hospital, Edwards said.No identities were immediately released. One of those hospitalized was an off-duty officer from another agency. Police said the name of the deceased won't be released until the Riverside County coroner notifies family.Shoppers and employees described terror and chaos as the shots rang out.Christina Colis told the Riverside Press-Enterprise that she was in the produce area when she heard six to seven shots and hid with other shoppers in a refrigerated produce room. She said her mother saw people injured on the floor.Will Lungo, 45, of Corona, said he and his wife were near the produce and alcohol sections when he heard gunshots."I thought maybe someone dropped a bottle of wine, but then I kept hearing shots," Lungo told the Press-Enterprise. "An employee came in and helped us out through the emergency exit."Witnesses told KCAL-TV that shoppers and employees rushed to the exits. She wears a lot of hats, helping families with everything from CPR courses to car seats and helmet safety.“Injuries are the leading cause of death and serious injury for children under 14,” Frias said. "It's all about prevention it's all about setting people up so that kids aren’t seriously injured or hurt.” This holiday season Frias says, we all need all the joy and happiness we can get. She advises caution about seasonal decor, especially if you've got young kids.“Things like keeping breakable ornaments up high on your tree, or maybe not having any breakable ornaments on your tree, and making sure that none of your lights are frayed and everything is in good working condition,” Frias said. She said to make sure you're considering age-appropriate gifts, be wary of toys with button cell batteries, and make sure kids can't access those compartments. She also warns that people need to be mindful of holiday plants, and stockings, which can pose a problem.“Mistletoe or holly berry those are two items that are extremely poisonous," Frias said. “Hang your stockings from your fireplace, but if you use your fireplace, remove the stockings from your fireplace before you use it." Frias added that parents should keep in mind that the glass on your fireplace is one of the hottest areas in your home and a young child with thin skin that touches it could have third-degree burns in seconds.When it comes to some of those bigger gifts, Frias reminds people about falls, which is what doctors tend to see the most of in pediatric trauma centers.“Bikes and scooters are great gifts to give kids," Frias said. "But also include a helmet. They need to have helmets and make sure it fits.” Dr. Nikhil Bhayani, who's an infectious disease specialist for a large health care group in North Texas said if you're planning a trip to see Santa Claus, do it while keeping COVID precautions in mind.“My kids wanted to see Santa Claus and the first thing I said was 'we’ll see what type of protective barrier they have what are they implementing,'" Bhayani said. "It was very interesting that Santa was 6 feet away and he was sitting in the back of the sleigh, but they had a Plexiglass separating the kids from Santa Claus."Right now, he says, his clinic is full of COVID-19 patients.“As a provider, I would encourage you to stay at home as much as possible," Bhayani said. Comet NEOWISE may be on its way out, but that doesn't mean that the night sky's light show is set to end.According to the American Meteor Society, two meteor showers are set to peak in the coming days, which could result in several fireballs that light up the sky.One of those showers is the Southern Delta-Aquariids, which, according to NASA, are typically visible between July 12 and Aug. 23. But the agency reports that the system will peak in activity early Monday morning.At its viewing peak — in the southern hemisphere on a clear dark night — the Southern Delta-Aquariids can produce up to 25 meteors an hour, NASA says. Unfortunately, Americans won't be able to see that many fireballs, but experts still say some may still be visible — especially for those with minimal light pollution and clear skies.NASA says the Southern Delta-Aquariids will be most visible between moonset and first dawn on early Monday morning.The American Meteor Society also reports that the Alpha Capricornids will also peak early next week. While the AMS notes that the shower isn't particularly strong (about five meteors an hour), the meteors it does produce are particularly bright and visible.The AMS says the Alpha Capricornids will peak Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.According to the Associated Press, Comet NEOWISE will be visible in the night sky through mid-August before it heads back out toward the outer solar system. 1430
