SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With the soaring cost of housing across the county, many San Diegans are wondering if they can afford to buy. New data shows what 0K will get you in San Diego compared to other parts of the country. According to Property Shark, you could, on average, buy a 496 square foot home for 0,000. The same amount of money would buy you more than 3,300 square feet in El Paso and more than 3,200 in San Antonio. In contrast, 0K only buys you 126 square feet in Manhattan. RELATED: How much you need to earn to buy a home in San Diego CountyCheck out the map below for more cities:So what does that actually look like? Zillow has a list of homes you can buy for under 0,000.While some of the properties listed on the site are simply dirt lots (cozy, right?) a majority of the houses for sale under the 0K mark consist of mobile homes. One of the properties available on Zillow is a two bedroom, one bath 800 square foot condo on the 3400 block of Del Sol Boulevard currently on the market for just under 0K. If you were to put 20 percent down on a 0,000 30-year mortgage with a 4.6 percent interest rate, your monthly payment would be roughly 2, according to Zillow. Click here for more listings in San Diego.   1318

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officers arrested 20 illegal immigrants during a five-day sting, officials reported Friday. The operation, which wrapped up Thursday, was focused on immigrants with a final removal order, criminal convictions, or criminal charges. ICE did not provide details about the locations of the arrests or the names of those targeted.ICE officials said 85 percent of those arrested had prior convictions or charges including drugs, weapons offenses, hit and run crashes, DUI, theft, domestic violence, fraud, and evasion. “Targeted operations like this reflect the vital public service that ERO officers do every day to protect the nation, uphold public safety and protect the integrity of our immigration laws and border control,” said Field Office Director Gregory Archambeault. “We will continue to conduct similar operations, while seeking to ultimately remove criminal aliens with a final order of removal and other immigration fugitives who pose a threat to public safety.” The primary targets of the operation will be removed from the United States, ICE officials said.Enforcement response officers arrested 158,581 immigrants in fiscal year 2018, according to ICE. 90 percent of those arrested had criminal convictions, charges, or previous final orders of removal. 1350

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With bars that don’t serve food shut down as of Wednesday, some employees may be finding themselves in need of unemployment benefits just days after they stopped collecting them. Some San Diego County bars got just 19 days to operate before they were shuttered again, but that’s plenty of time for employees to have their unemployment benefits lapse. The good news is that individuals don’t have to start entirely from square one.REBOUND: Search for job openings in San Diego County “It should be less time-consuming this go around,” said Andrew Picard with the San Diego Workforce Partnership, a local non-profit agency that supports job-seekers with training, but is not in charge of processing unemployment benefits. It turns out, if you stop certifying for unemployment benefits for even one week, your claim goes inactive and must be reopened. The state suggests reopening a claim on UI Online, which can be done at any time. There is a video tutorial produced by the state available here.Picard recommends reopening the claim as soon as possible. The following guide was provided by the Employment Development Department.d 1150

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The threat of a major lawsuit has led to several San Diego County cities changing how they are holding elections. As voters in those districts head to the polls or get their mail-in ballots, they will notice a big change in their options on who to vote for.15 jurisdictions in the county are switching from at-large elections to district elections. This means those jurisdictions have been carved up into districts. In those races voters will only be able to vote for someone who lives in that same district."It's going to create some confusion at the ballot box," Encinitas City Councilmember Tony Kranz told 10News. "You're going to wonder why you can't vote for some of those folks."Encinitas made the change for 2018, along with Carlsbad, El Cajon, Oceanside, Poway, San Marcos, Santee and Vista. School Districts using the new voting system are Cajon Valley Union, Carlsbad Unified, Oceanside Unified, Poway Unified, San Dieguito Union High School, and San Marcos Unified. In most cases, the change is a response to a threatened lawsuit. Attorney Kevin Shenkman, who works in Malibu, has threatened lawsuits challenging the legality of at-large elections across California. He says at-large elections are a violation of California's Voter's Rights Act of 2001."It's just a fundamentally unfair election system that freezes out minorities," Shenkman told 10News.Shenkman says at-large elections make it easier for the majority, even a slim majority, to take full control city councils, school boards, and other elected bodies. He says studies have shown that leaves minority groups without a voice. In an interview with 10News, he pointed out examples, including a claim that Hispanic voters did not have enough representation in Encintas, and a claim that voters in the southern portion of Poway have disproportionally less power than those in other parts of Poway."District elections are just a more fair system," Shenkman says. 1974
