DETROIT, Mich. - Halloween activities, like costume parties and trick-or-treating, will look much different this year because of the pandemic. Some families might be looking for new traditions like going from house to house checking out Halloween decorations at a safe distance.There is one home in Grosse Pointe Farms that is a must-see.For 24 years, Mark Van Sile and his wife go all out for Halloween. Their home sits on the corner of Lake Shore Drive and Moross Road. With thousands of LED lights and tons of spooky decorations, it has become an attraction!“It means more to people this year than in the past because it is a sign of normalcy,” Mark said.He puts up the lights and decorations himself. He’s in real estate and construction and rents equipment. Mark says it takes 80 hours to decorate about ,000 worth of props and lights.Every year, the Vane Sile couple would dress up and pass out full-size candy bars to 1,400 trick-or-treaters. But because of the pandemic, they are keeping safe and won’t be hosting trick-or-treaters.This year, people are welcome to walk up the driveway and check out all the spooky sights at a safe distance.“People are truly enthusiastic about it,” Mark said.It is not just Halloween, they go big on Independence Day and Christmas.Mark has so many decorations, he built his own storage room. The homeowner is so festive, he was featured in a Valero Energy commercial for putting up half a million lightsMark says he’s happy when all of his efforts bring smiles and lasting memories for little ones.“When you have Halloween decorations, you have Christmas decorations, it’s for everybody to enjoy," he said. "Take a step back, relax. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - Renting or owning a home in Del Mar is way out of reach for most San Diego families. But unlike other coastal cities, Del Mar has zero affordable apartments. Instead, Del Mar subsidizes rent for six low-income families. On Monday, the county's smallest city could get on the way to offering affordable homes. The Del Mar City Council could move to take advantage of a new state law that streamlines permitting for accessory dwelling units, like a granny flat in the backyard or a separate apartment within a house. The city may ask families who build those units to commit to leasing them to low-income families for thirty years. In exchange, the homeowners would get an additional 500 square feet of space above current zoning when they want to add on to their properties. “There is nothing that brings me to life or makes me feel more at home than being near the coast, and I think it's a blessing and wonderful opportunity,” said Kari Arendsen, who was visiting Dog Beach.  The city is hoping to start the program with two homeowners, but ultimately aims to get 22 affordable homes on line. The affordable homes would be for families earning at least 80 percent of the median income, so a family of two earning about ,200 a year would qualify. Delta Air Lines will not be opening up their middle seats on its planes anytime soon.On Thursday, the airline company updated its coronavirus safety policy and announced they would be closing off the middle seats through Jan. 6, which is considered a busy period for them because of the holiday season.For travel through Oct. 31, Delta said it would limit the number of customers on board all aircraft, limit the First Class cabin to half capacity, and block one aisle of seats on a plane without middle seats.USA Today reported that the company would cap capacity at 75% percent in the main cabin through Oct. 31. DALLAS (AP) — The Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday it has granted Southwest Airlines approval to begin flights between California and Hawaii, capping the airline's effort to extend its reach 2,400 miles (3,800 kilometers) across the Pacific.The Dallas-based airline's chief operating officer, Mike Van de Ven, said Southwest will announce timing for selling tickets and beginning flights in the coming days.The FAA will increase oversight of Southwest for the first six months, an agency spokesman said, adding that the additional monitoring is standard practice.RELATED: Lower fares to Hawaii offered following Southwest Airlines successful test flightSouthwest plans to launch flights to four of the Hawaiian islands, including Oahu, where Honolulu is located.
