SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An anonymous businessman and San Diego Sheriff's deputies delivered some much needed holiday joy ahead of Thanksgiving to families.The Sheriff's department says a local businessman, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated ,000 in cash and ,000 in grocery gift cards to be given to local families in need. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An 86-year-old man was killed crossing the street in Mira Mesa Thursday night, police say. According to San Diego Police, the crash occurred on Mira Mesa Boulevard and Aderman Avenue just before 7 p.m. Thursday. Police say the man was using a crosswalk against a red light when he was struck by a 52-year-old woman driving a 2009 Lexus sedan. The man died at the scene and the driver, who police say stayed at the scene, was uninjured. Drugs or alcohol aren’t suspected in the crash. 512

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An off-ramp connecting northbound Interstate 5 to westbound I-8 was closed Friday morning as officers reassessed the scene of a crash earlier this week.Just before 2 a.m. Monday, a Volkswagen Jetta was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-8 from Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, according to California Highway Patrol. The Jetta then entered northbound I-5 in the wrong direction and collided with a Toyota Camry.An SUV then slammed into the rear end of the Camry, CHP said this week. The driver of the Jetta, identified as Justin Callahan, died at the scene. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego-based U.S. Coast Guard crew rescued a man having a heart attack on board a tanker off Point Loma Tuesday morning.The Chembulk New York, a 525-foot tanker vessel, radioed the Coast Guard for help Monday at 4:15 p.m. At the time, the ship was 370 miles southwest of San Diego, Coast Guard officials reported.A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter left San Diego at 10:45 p.m. to rendezvous with the ship, which changed course to facilitate the medical evacuation.At 1:30 a.m., the helicopter crew arrived and hoisted the man on board. The crew flew him to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.The man was reported to be in stable condition, according to the Coast Guard. 708

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A verdict has been reached in the trial of a former Yuma Police officer accused of raping his then-wife's cousin in 2017.Jurors found 34-year-old Jared Elkins guilty of four felony counts, including forcible rape and sexual penetration by force. Elkins was found not guilty, however, on four similar counts involving an intoxicated victim."I'm extremely pleased with this jury and their verdicts," said Deputy District Attorney Lisa Fox."The fact that he was a law enforcement officer and carried a weapon was significant for the victim in this case she believed that he would carry through with these threats and why she was so afraid of him," argued Fox.Elkins was taken into custody without bail following the reading of the verdict. Elkins claimed during testimony this month that the sex was consensual and the rape charges were made out of guilt.Following the encounter, the woman says she ran to her mother's room and both escaped out of a window.
