(KGTV) -- San Diego County Fire-Rescue announced Saturday that it sent firefighters from the department to help battle the Apple Fire burning in Riverside County.According to the agency, crews left early Saturday morning to join the fight against the blaze.Strike team deployments usually last 14 days, but can be reduced or last longer, depending on the incident, the department said.“California has a very strong mutual aid system and it kicks into gear for wildfires to support fire agencies in our state and others,” the agency added.The North County Fire Protection District said later in the day it sent two units to battle the blaze. The Poway Firefighters Association also said it sent crews to assist with the Apple Fire. As of Sunday morning, the fire had scorched 15,000 acres and was 0% contained, according to KABC. One home has so far been destroyed with another 2,500 threatened. The Apple Fire began as two separate blazes in Cherry Valley Friday evening. BOSTON (AP) — A Boston veterinary hospital got quite a surprise recently when a family brought in their bulldog after he stopped eating.The Angell Animal Medical Center found 19 baby pacifiers in the dog's stomach.It started in April when the Wellesley family noticed that their 3-year-old dog, Mortimer, started getting nauseous before meals. His owner, Emily Shanahan, brought Mortimer to the vet, who prescribed medicine to take care of the issue.But it didn't help and Mortimer eventually stopped eating entirely.Shanahan went to Angell, where they took an X-ray and discovered the pacifiers.Vets think Mortimer had been taking the pacifiers from Shanahan's two children over the course of months.The pacifiers were removed using a medical scope that did not require surgery. Mortimer recovered and is back at home. 827

(KGTV) -- The United States Geological Survey is reporting that an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.9 hit near Borrego Springs Wednesday night.The earthquake struck roughly 10 miles north northeast of Borrego Springs just after 6:30 p.m. Residents in the area report feeling brief shaking during the earthquake.  366
