TAMPA--Can coronavirus stick to your mail and packages? It's a question many people have when they run to the mailbox or even pick up groceries at the store. The National Institutes of Health says a study suggested the virus that causes COVID-19 can stay on surfaces like plastic and stainless steel for up to three days. The study also found the virus can live on cardboard for up to 24 hours. "The question exists, just because the virus has the capacity to survive on these surfaces, we don’t know that just that living virus can then turn into an infection as well," said Dr. Paul Nanda of Tampa General Hospital Urgent Care. The CDC reported it may be possible to get coronavirus after touching a contaminated surface and then touching your face, though the World Health Organization says that likelihood is low. The virus is thought to spread mainly person to person through respiratory droplets when someone sneezes or coughs. When it comes to your mail and packages, Dr. Nanda says you shouldn't have a problem.“Usually when mail and packages are in transit, they’re in transit long enough that if there was any contamination or virus on that packaging that enough time would’ve elapsed and it would be safe,” said Nanda.Dr. Nanda has heard of people creating a staging area in their garage to leave packages for an additional 24 hours after delivery. He says being extra cautious won't hurt you.Dr. Marissa Levine, a professor of public health and family medicine at USF, wants people to get into a routine of washing your hands."Just wash your hands, soap and water, 20 seconds. That’s the best thing that you can do," said Levine. "If the box or the surface is something you might use or touch frequently, then it wouldn’t be wrong to disinfect those surfaces.”If you get an envelope, package, or groceries, health experts suggest washing your hands, handle the items, and then sanitize again when you're done.Agencies like USPS, UPS, and FEDEX have taken extra precautions like using sanitizers, following social distancing guidelines, and no longer requiring signatures for some deliveries. SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Officials say a labeling error caused a person infected with the novel coronavirus, officially named COVID-19, to be mistakenly released from a hospital, but the oversight was noticed as she was returning to a San Diego military base. Officials with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said Tuesday the mix-up came to authorities’ attention while she was being driven back to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, where more than 200 evacuees from China are living under federal quarantine. Officials say she was isolated at the base for testing and sent back to a hospital after results came back. The CDC said the error occurred after it issued a negative finding Sunday on a large batch of specimens taken from people quarantined at the base. The woman had her sample taken at the hospital, where she was being observed for a cough. The hospital released her at CDC’s direction after being told that everyone quarantined had shown negative results, when, in fact, her sample was excluded from the rest of the batch.Dr. Christopher Braden, who leads the CDC’s delegation in San Diego the mixup was the result of a labeling issue. The agency says it will now assign a laboratory specialist to prevent incorrect labeling. The CDC says this woman is the 13th confirmed case of the virus in the United States and is the first among hundreds who have been evacuated from China to the U.S. They are under two-week quarantines at military bases in California, Texas and Nebraska.Wednesday, the CDC did announce some good news. The agency said the first group of people who were evacuated from Wuhan to the March Air Reserve Base in Riverside were cleared to leave the base after being under quarantine for 14 days. None were infected with the virus.People threw their face masks into the air and hugged, said Dr. Nancy Knight with the CDC.“They pose no health risk to themselves, to their families, to their places of work, to schools or their communities,” said Knight. “There should be no concern about novel coronavirus from these 195 individuals. They have been watched more closely than anyone else in the United States.”Since American airports began screening for the virus, the CDC says 30,000 passengers from China have been screened and they’re seeing increasingly fewer passengers. China’s National Health Commission (NHC) found that the number of new coronavirus cases has been trending down over the past few days. Still, the CDC said Wednesday that it may be optimistic to think the virus cases are peaking. There are also new questions about how long it can take for the virus to show up. A NHC study suggests the incubation period could be as long as 24 days, but the CDC says it still thinks 14 days is the best length of time to quarantine someone. 2789

So goes having home-field advantage? In a series which resulted in the road team winning every single game, the Washington Nationals won the winner-take-all Game 7 on Wednesday by defeating the Houston Astros 6-2. The Nationals won the series by a 4-3 margin. After Washington took the first two games played in Houston, Houston responded by winning Games 3, 4 and 5 in Washington, D.C. Facing elimination, the Nationals won Games 6 and 7 in Houston. The win marked the first ever World Series title in franchise history, including when the franchise was located in Montreal. The last time a Washington-based team won a World Series was 1924. After being sidelined with an injury for Sunday’s Game 5, Nationals’ All-Star starting pitcher Max Scherzer kept his club in Game 7 with a 5-inning, two-run effort. Then, Patrick Corbin, spurning his usual role as a starter, came out of the bullpen to hold the Astros scoreless for 3 innings. After Houston held a 2-0 lead through 6 innings, Washington responded with three runs in the 7th inning, including a Howie Kendrick home run, which gave the Nationals a 3-2 lead. In the 8th, Juan Soto singled to deliver a RBI which scored Adam Eaton. Eaton returned the favor in the 9th with a two-RBI single to center field to lift Washington to a more comfortable 6-2 lead. Though not pitching in Wednesday’s Game 7, pitcher Stephen Strasburg earned the win in two of Washington’s four World Series victories, including Tuesday’s pivotal Game 6. Strasburg was named the series' MVP."I don't know. It's almost like we've done it so many times that we have to get punched in the face to kind of wake up. I think it's just the MO. We don't quit. We never quit throughout the season despite kind of everybody saying that we were done," Straburg said. Coming into the season, despite being favored by some to win the National League East, the Nationals faced the adversity of losing 2015 MVP Bryce Harper to rival Philadelphia. Instead of winning the East, the Nationals entered the MLB Playoffs via a Wild Card. Washington gutted out a 4-3 win over Milwaukee in the Wild Card game. Then facing elimination twice in the Division Series, the Nationals won Game 4 6-1 before winning Game 5 in extra innings to win that series. Washington then went on to easily sweep the St. Louis Cardinals. "This year, I can honestly say nothing would have surprised me," Nationals manager Dave Martinez said. "I mean, from where we started, traveling "boos," you name it, we've been through a lot."But like I said before, these guys, we stuck together. They believed in each other. I believed in them. And I told them before the game, I said, Hey, I want you guys to just treat this as just another game, it's Game 184, which is hard to do. I said, But we made it this far, just play one more game. One more 1-0, and they did that tonight." 2869

Scientists working for a NASA-funded project at the University of Arizona said that a possible "mini moon" is currently orbiting the Earth. Kacper Wierzchos of the Catalina Sky Survey tweeted this week that an object, 2020 CD3, has been captured by Earth's gravitational pull, and is temporarily in orbit around the Earth. The object is not very large, only 6 to 11 feet, Wierzchos said, but he added it is still an extraordinary discovery. "it's a big deal as out of ~ 1 million known asteroids, this is just the second asteroid known to orbit Earth (after 2006 RH120, which was also discovered by the Catalina Sky Survey)," he tweeted. 2020 CD3 began orbiting the Earth three years ago. Elon Musk, the head of Tesla, jokingly tweeted, "It’s not mine." Tesla sent a Roadster into space in 2018. BIG NEWS (thread 1/3). Earth has a new temporarily captured object/Possible mini-moon called 2020 CD3. On the night of Feb. 15, my Catalina Sky Survey teammate Teddy Pruyne and I found a 20th magnitude object. Here are the discovery images. 1049
