It overthrew the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), ending thousands of years of Chinese feudalism.Separately, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said at the meeting all attendees agreed with the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee proposal for the nation's next five-year program.Jia said all CPPCC National Committee members should learn and understand the proposal to ensure China realizes the transformation of its economic development pattern. The CPPCC will continue to make further efforts to help implement the 12th Five-Year Program, Jia said. Also Friday, Jia said at a group study meeting of the CPPCC National Committee that members and organizations of the CPPCC have made great efforts to promote economic and cultural exchange with Taiwan compatriots."It is necessary for CPPCC members to make a good use of our advantages with wide connections, be ready to offer advice and suggestions, and carry out and promote exchange between compatriots across the Taiwan Strait, so as to enhance understanding and trust, and make contribution to advancing peaceful reunification of our motherland," said Jia.

PARIS, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's coming visit to France will help the two countries consolidate consensus on bilateral ties and major international issues, Chinese Ambassador to France Kong Quan said Monday.Kong made the remarks during a joint interview by Chinese media. He said Hu's visit, slated for Nov. 4-6, showed Sino-French relations were going into a new period of all-round, healthy and rapid development. In the face of complicated and profound changes in the international situation, Hu and his French counterpart, Nicolas Sarkozy, would discuss how to work together to highlight the strategic nature of the partnership between the two countries, Kong said. The two countries were now enjoying accelerated development of comprehensive and sound bilateral ties with increasing exchanges in politics, trade and economy and culture and science, the ambassador said.Drastic changes in the world political and economic situation made France and China realize the importance of reinforcing mutual understanding and communication, as well as the necessity to deepen cooperation in a bid to safeguard world peace and development as well as the long-term interests of their respective countries, he said.Kong said that enhanced bilateral exchanges and cooperation and consolidated partnership between China and France was in line with their fundamental interests as well as their expectations.Since the two countries differed in national condition, social system, stage of economic development and culture and history, it was natural for them to have certain different views and stands, he said."What's more important is that the leaders and peoples of the two nations agree to promote candid dialogue and exchanges to enhance understanding and trust on the basis of mutual respect."Meanwhile, they should also attach importance to each other's core interests and major concerns, Kong stressed.According to the ambassador, the two sides were ready to pledge joint efforts to ensure a sustained and sound development of friendly bilateral ties and cooperation. With regard to bilateral economic ties, Kong said bilateral trade between China and France had been growing rapidly on a reciprocal basis.Trade and economic cooperation between the two had seen an average annual growth rate of about 18 percent over the past 10 years, he said. The rapid growth in bilateral trade reflected the interdependence and complementary nature of the two economies, he said.Great efforts should be made in three major areas to expand bilateral trade and economic cooperation, he said.Firstly, the two countries should deepen cooperation in such traditional areas as aviation, energy and transport, Kong said.Bilateral cooperation in emerging fields such as finance, new energy, new material, low-carbon technology and sustainable development should also be stepped up, he said. The ambassador also highlighted the importance of carrying out cooperation at the level of regional governments.Regarding the upcoming G-20 summit in Seoul, Kong said France and China had maintained good cooperation within the framework. He also called for countries around the world to strengthen cooperation and implement the consensus reached at the previous G-20 summits to consolidate global economic recovery.

BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) - China is still likely to meet its full-year inflation target this year despite the August inflation rate quickening to a 22-month high of 3.5 percent year on year, officials from the country' s top economic planer said Wednesday. In August, the consumer price index (CPI) rose mainly by increased prices of food products like pork and eggs, as the coming Mid-Autumn festival in China had boosted the consumption of food items, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).Further, the price rise of vegetables due to seasonal reasons contributed to the August CPI increase, said the NDRC authorities. The upcoming autumn harvest, which accounts for about 70 percent of China's annual grain output, is expected to stabilize food prices, which have a one-third weighting in the calculation of the CPI, said the NDRC.The NDRC also revealed that China would place central pork reserves on the market, which means pork prices cannot rise higher.Further, the industrial consumer prices are remaining stable with a slight decline, and this is not conducive to inflation, according to the NDRC.These elements are assisting in the drop of the CPI through the rest of the year, and is helpful for China to attain its full year inflation target, it added.China has targeted a 3 percent rise in consumer prices this year.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- China's growth is projected to average 10.5 percent in 2010 and 9.6 percent in 2011, driven by domestic demand, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said in a report Wednesday. The Washington-based international lending agency made the projection for the annual fall meetings this weekend of the 187-nation IMF and its sister lending organization, the World Bank."The slight moderation in recent activity is expected to continue through 2011 in light of tighter quantitative limits on credit growth, measures to cool off the property market and limit bank exposure to this, and the planned unwinding of fiscal stimulus in 2011," the IMF said in its report. The report said this year's sustained growth in retail sales and industrial production confirms that private sector activity has advanced beyond the lift from government stimulus."On average over 2010-11, private domestic demand is poised to contribute two-thirds of near term growth, and government activity about one third, whereas the contribution from net exports will be close to zero," the report said.Despite the robustness in domestic demand, the pickup in inflation in 2010 reflected mainly higher food prices rather than core inflation, the report said. The report said China's increasingly wide trading network is driving growth in numerous economies, especially commodity exporters. The report said Asia's medium-term growth depends on the rebalancing of drivers of growth -- greater reliance should be put on domestic markets instead of foreign demand. The report said such a rebalancing in China, the world's second largest economy, is critical to enhance the role of household consumption in domestic growth. The report also recommended that China implement reforms to health care, education, and pension systems to enhance the social safety net.

BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- China has kept a "generally stable" coal mine safety record in the first nine months of 2010, as the death toll caused by accidents remained almost flat over the same period last year, Zhao Tiechui, head of the State Administration of Coal Mine Safety (SACMS), said here Monday. From January to September, the nation's coal output reached 2.44 billion tonnes, up 17.2 percent, but accidents dropped 13.2 percent year on year, Zhao said.He did not give any actual numbers of coal mine accidents or deaths caused during period, but said the death ratio per million tons of coal output stood at 0.783 percent, down 13.9 percent over the same period last year.According to the SACMS's last publicized figures, deaths from coal mine accidents totaled 3,215 in China in 2008. In the January-September period of 2009, China recorded 591 fewer deaths from coal mine accidents, down by 23.8 percent from the 2008 level.Gas explosions, floods and fires inside coal mines were frequent occurrences during the first nine months, posing severe safety challenges to China's coal mine production, Zhao said.In a separate report by the State Administration of Work Safety in July this year, workplace accidents left 33,876 people dead in China during the first half of the year.
