BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- China seeks a win-win partnership featuring equality and mutual trust with the United States, as the two countries' interests are deeply correlated in the era of globalization, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said."Relations between China and the United States should be cooperative and win-win and not a zero-sum game," Yang said in an interview in Beijing Friday.Applauding the two countries' consensus to build a positive, cooperative and comprehensive bilateral relationship in the 21st century, Yang said China and the U.S. should boost mutual understanding and learn to trust and respect one another.Mutual understanding is the basis for cooperation and a precondition for avoiding misjudgments, Yang said, adding that China's peaceful development is not only in the interests of the Chinese people but also for the whole world.To strengthen mutual trust, the two sides should learn to respect each other's core concerns and eliminate outdated ways of thinking, said the foreign minister.China adheres to peaceful development and the opening-up strategy that highlights mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, Yang said.China and the United States should respect each other's social system and cultural tradition, and realize that the two countries are at different stages of social development, Yang said.The two countries should properly handle frictions and disputes through dialogue on equal footing, he said.Yang said the bilateral ties have not been without any dispute but "generally, the Chinese-U.S. relations have grown at a steady pace.""We urge the U.S. side to abide by the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques and the U.S.-China Joint Statement. BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping Friday stressed efforts to promote outstanding officials at the grassroots who had tirelessly performed official duties honestly and diligently for the people.Xi, also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Part of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks while addressing a meeting of officials at CPC organization departments across the country.CPC's organization departments are responsible for work concerning the selection of party cadres.From 2011 to the first half of 2012, the current leadership of the CPC's provincial, municipal, county, and township level committees will be re-elected.Stressing the importance of the re-election, Xi said the year 2011 also marks the 90th anniversary of CPC's founding and the inaugural year for implementation of the 12th Five Year Plan, China's development blueprint covering the coming five years from 2011-2015.He urged party authorities to select and promote only those cadres who have both political integrity and professional competence.Further, Xi called for improved supervision over officials, especially those in key positions including heads of party committees or governments, chiefs of law enforcement agencies, and those in charge of personnel changes, money and materials, and other critical areas.He said he hoped that the re-election would further strengthen the leadership of the CPC in China and help contribute to the country's social and economic development in the coming five years.

WENCHANG, Hainan, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- China is building a science theme park in the middle of its newest spaceport to promote space science among the country's younger generation.The theme park, covering an area of 1,800 mu (120 hectares) in Wenchang City, southern Hainan Province, is located at the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center. The project is estimated to cost 3 billion yuan (455 million U.S. dollars) and is expected to be finished in 2013, the theme park's designers said.Wenchang Satellite Launch Center, whose construction began in 2007, is planned as the launch pad for China's lunar probe rocket in 2013.At the same time, the theme park will have four exhibition sections, featuring the earth, moon, Mars and the sun. Visitors can even enter parts of the launch station and watch the actual rocket launch, theme park construction officials said.The theme park is being built by China Aerospace International Holdings Limited, a Hong Kong listed arm of the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.There are currently three space launch sites in China, the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center and the Xichang Satellite Launch Center.

BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will pay official visits to India and Pakistan from Dec. 15 to 19 at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu announced Sunday.Wen will meet and exchange views with leaders of the two countries during the visits on bilateral relations and cooperation as well as international and regional issues of common concern, Jiang said.During his visit to India, Wen will attend activities marking the 60th anniversary of the China-India diplomatic ties with Prime Minister Singh, and meet with Indian people from all circles, Jiang said.In Pakistan, Wen will attend the China-Pakistan business summit and meet friends who have contributed to the friendship of the two countries."I believe Premier Wen's visits will help further China's relations with the two countries and promote regional peace, development and stability," said Jiang.

CHANGSHA, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in a fireworks blast in central China' s Hunan Province rose from an earlier announced nine to 12 after DNA tests results were completed , local authorities said Sunday night.Another two people were believed to be missing, police said, adding that three of the 12 victims were still to be identified.The blast, which also injured nine others, occurred in Ningxiang County of Changsha, the provincial capital, at about 9:30 p.m. Friday when a truck loaded with fireworks fuses hit a power pole and sparks from fallen cables ignited the fuses.The blast destroyed the truck and nearby houses, shattering windows and cracking walls hundreds of meters away.Rescue work and clean-up at the site ended on Sunday, a local government spokesman said.The nine injured, who are being treated in hospital, are in stable conditions, according to the spokesman.However, the whereabouts of the truck driver remains unknown.Police continue investigating the accident.
