"You can compare that to a car loan if you were to stop making payments, it's possible that your car could be repossessed," Norris says. With a personal loan, it's only backed by your guarantee. Companies walked back statements they made on Twitter or struggled to explain their actual relationships to Hannity -- in each case stoking the social media fires.Critics targeted companies that advertised on Hannity's syndicated radio show as well as his Fox News program after Hannity appeared to defend Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore on Thursday. Moore has been accused of sexual misconduct with teenagers, including a 14-year-old girl. He has denied the allegations.The firestorm began in earnest on Friday. Angelo Carusone, president of liberal watchdog group Media Matters for America, appealed directly to brands like Keurig to cut advertising ties with Hannity."Good afternoon @Keurig. You are currently sponsoring Sean Hannity's show ... please reconsider," Carusone wrote on Twitter.Keurig responded the next morning. The company said on Twitter: "We worked with our media partner and FOX news to stop our ad from airing during the Sean Hannity Show."Keurig's response was praised by Hannity's critics. "Twitter reaches a lot of people very quickly," he said, while "a press release can be ignored by the very people you want to see it."But companies do face a risk when they use social media platforms to disseminate a position. "If you don't think through the media strategy carefully, you can expose yourself to criticism from other people -- including people you see as potential customers," King said.Schenkler added that brands may sometimes forget how public their Twitter interactions are."What [brands] might consider to be business conversations are just out there, and people forget that," he said. With emotions still raw days after a deadly school shooting in Florida, one Ohio family is fighting back against what they think is an unfair punishment.Beth Mertel says one of her son's peers brought a toy gun to Greenbriar Middle School in Parma on Feb. 8, and pointed it at her son, Joey."He says he doesn't want to be the snitch," Mertel said. "They're 11 years old. They're kids. They're trying to find their place with their friends too."Mertel says the Parma City School District suspended the student who brought the toy gun, along with three other students, including Joey, for knowing about it but not telling an adult about it.The district stands behind the discipline, saying the three additional students were punished under a part of the Student Handbook labeled "Withholding Information."Mertel's concern is with the severity of the punishment, not the rule she admits her son should have followed."No matter how much I disagree with the suspension, you still should have said something," said Beth.Mertel says Wednesday's tragedy in Florida is an important teaching moment."I said [to Joey] you need to go home and turn on the news," said Beth. "You need to watch this, you need to understand this."The district tells us that suspension will stay on Joey's internal school record through middle school and into high school. White House officials have told congressional leaders and appropriators that President Donald Trump does not want any additional relief funding sent to Puerto Rico, a congressional leadership aide told CNN on Monday.While there are no talks to cut funds that have already been appropriated, a White House aide said negotiations have focused on keeping Puerto Rico relief funding out of a supplemental spending bill that would fund relief efforts in parts of the south that were ravaged by hurricanes this year.That aide noted Puerto Rican officials haven't yet spent all the money Congress has set aside for them, and said the administration is moving to stop any more money from going to help the island "because they don't need it and will most likely not be able to spend it."Trump's latest positioning on Puerto Rico was first reported by Axios.
