CINCINNATI -- On Tuesday afternoon, 16-year-old Kyle Jacob Plush called 911 panicking.Over the course of a three-minute call in which he gasped, cried repeatedly for help and struggled to communicate with the operator, he relayed that he was trapped inside his car in the parking lot of Seven Hills School."I probably don't have much time left, so tell my mom I love her if I die," he said. The call ended; when the operator attempted to call back, only a voicemail responded.A deputy sent to the scene called in soon after to report that he couldn't find anyone trapped in a van. He questioned if the call had been a prank.Plush was there. He called again."This is not a joke," he said. "I am trapped inside a gold Honda Odyssey van in the parking lot of Seven Hills. ... Send officers immediately. I'm almost dead."At several points in the second three-minute call, during which the operator does not respond and loud banging or heavy breathing can be heard, he attempts to call on the Siri automated iPhone assistant without success.Around 9 p.m., according to police, a family member discovered him dead inside the van -- a death Hamilton County Coroner Lakshmi Sammarco would rule accidental "asphyxia caused by chest compression."Something -- neither Sammarco nor Lt. Steve Saunders indicated what -- had pressed so hard against Plush's chest that he suffocated.The information released by police Wednesday afternoon did not clarify the reason the first deputy to respond was not able to find Plush's van or where Plush had been inside of it. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Federal and local authorities, in addition to hazmat crews, were called out to the scene of a drug raid in Chula Vista after agents found fentanyl and THC extraction on the property. The raid happened at a home on 2nd Avenue Wednesday afternoon. DEA officials confirmed the search warrant was part of an ongoing investigation. DEA agents arrested one man during their search, and he is suspected of mixing fentanyl with other illegal drugs, according to a DEA spokesperson. Agents did not identify the man or disclose the amount of drugs found. The hazardous materials teams were summoned to the scene to investigate any possible contamination in the neighborhood and to process the drugs that were discovered. 747

(KGTV) - California Highway Patrol officers opened fire, fatally shooting a suspect after a chase that began in Orange County ended in Chula Vista, the agency said.The chase started just before midnight when, for an unknown reason, Santa Ana Police attempted a traffic stop.The pursuit continued through San Diego County until coming to an end near I-805 south and East Orange Avenue around 1:30 a.m.At some point, CHP says officers opened fire on the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital. CHP did not say whether the driver was armed or whether there was anyone else in the vehicle.No CHP officers were hit, the agency confirmed. (CNS) - A report on five possible sites for a future Cal State University campus, including in Chula Vista, states that none of the sites would be a suitable candidate based on enrollment demand alone, according to a report presented Tuesday to the CSU Board of Trustees.The report stems from a study undertaken to assess the potential need for a new campus in Chula Vista, as well as the cities of Concord and Palm Desert, and the counties of San Mateo and San Joaquin.The study -- which can be viewed at https://www.csucapacitystudy.org -- examines various factors regarding a potential CSU site in Chula Vista's University and Innovation District.The study found that CSU enrollment is projected to increase "moderately" over the next 15 years, with the San Diego area projected to see 5,700 more full-time CSU students by 2035.RELATED: Chula Vista on shortlist for potential California State University campusWhile the report concluded the projected enrollment demand does not warrant a new campus, the study did not account for COVID-19's possible enrollment impacts, as CSU's pandemic-related transition to virtual education occurred during the compilation of the study.The study also noted, however, that systemwide CSU enrollment exceeds the current physical capacity by an average of 17% or 57,300 full-time students.The estimated cost to establish a new campus ranges from billion to billion, with the timeline to develop a new campus estimated at nine years, according to the report. 1528

(KGTV) — Police say they rescued a kidnapping victim this week, after the man was able to signal for help through a car's cracked window as the suspect tasked with guarding him slept.Sunday night, a 36-year-old man was attacked by two men and thrown into a pick-up truck while walking to his car from a restaurant in the 600 block of Broadway, Chula Vista Police said.Police said the suspects took the victim to a second location near Sequoia St. and Presidio Point Ct. and handed him off to a third suspect waiting in a parked car. While the suspect in the front seat was supposed to be watching the victim in the backseat, he fell asleep instead, police say.Police say that's when the victim was able to signal for help, waving a white cloth out of a slightly cracked open window in the backseat. A passerby spotted the victim flagging for help at about 11:30 a.m. Monday and called police.Police arrived and rescued the man and arrested the sleeping guard.That's when the suspected pick-up originally used to abduct the victim drove past, police said. Police say they arrested one of the two men inside the truck who they believe to have been involved with Sunday's incident.Police are still looking for a third suspect.The motive behind the abduction remains unclear, police said, but it didn't appear the victim knew the kidnappers.The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the ordeal, police added. 1470
