MOHE, Heilongjiang, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Some 42,000 tonnes of crude oil had as of 5:48 a.m. Sunday flowed through an oil pipeline linking Russia's far east and northeast China, 24 hours after the pipeline began operating, a spokesman for the Chinese operator of the pipeline said.The pipeline, which originates in the Russian town of Skovorodino in the far-eastern Amur region, enters China at Mohe and terminates at northeast China's Daqing City.A total of 1.32 million tonnes of oil is scheduled to be transported to China through the pipeline in January, said a spokesman for Pipeline Branch of Petro China Co., Ltd. (PBPC), the operator of the Chinese section of the pipeline.The 1,000-km-long pipeline will transport 15 million tonnes of crude oil from Russia to China per year from 2011 until 2030, according to an agreement signed between the two countries. Some 72 kilometers of the pipeline is in Russia while 927 km of it is in China.

LONDON, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The British business sector was pleased at the successful visit this week of Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang which concluded on Wednesday.During the four-day visit, Li signed business agreements with an estimated value of more than 4 billion U.S. dollars with the British government."China is vital to the UK economy. China is now the world's largest goods exporter and the UK's largest goods export market outside the U.S. and EU. We are keen to realize the immense potential for deepening and broadening areas of commercial cooperation," said British Minister of State for Trade and Investment Lord Green during the visit.The British coalition government was faced with a near-record public spending deficit of 149 billion pounds (about 236.5 billion dollars) and has chosen to tackle it immediately with the deepest set of cuts to public spending since the Second World War.In such an economic climate, Vice Premier Li's visit to Britain brought welcome contracts but it also brought wider agreements that will bear fruit over a longer period, and that has been hailed as a great success.In an interview with Xinhua after Li's visit, Andy Scott, director international of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), hailed the visit's success, the achievements of the deal itself, and the longer-term prospects which were very positive.Commenting on the visit, and on the wider China-British relationship, he said, "in the long-term prospects are very positive. That's as the two countries have made big achievements on politics, economy, culture and society, sending their bilateral relations to a "new historical point."German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited China in July and met Premier Wen Jiabao and President Hu Jintao. During her visit, China and Germany issued the second communique in two countries' history, which was considered a historical event by both sides.The Sino-German relations have entered a new phase, Merkel said. The development of relations between the two countries, she said, are formed on a "completely new basis."Wen said Merkel's visit and the communique have "historical significance" that will help map out the blueprint of bilateral ties and make it stand on "a new historical starting point."The communique contains 28 points, in which both sides pledged to maintain regular contact between their leaders and the mechanism of annual meetings of the premier and chancellor.Both countries stressed to take care of each other's core interests, to enhance their mutual understanding and political trust, and to strengthen dialogues on strategy, law and human rights. BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's coal mine safety watchdog said Wednesday that the nation would require all coal mines to be equipped with emergency shelter systems to protect miners before June 2013.Also, the country's State Administration of Coal Mine Safety (SACMS) has required all mines to complete installation of four systems, including coal mine monitoring, pressure fan facilities, water supplies, and communications before the end of this year.Further, centrally-administered coal mine companies and major state-owned coal mines must also install positioning systems for workers underground, said Zhao Tiechui, SACMS chief.Meanwhile, centrally-administered coal mines and major state-owned coal mines must set an example by completing the construction of emergency shelter facilities before June 2012, Zhao said.More than 2,000 miners were killed in coal mines last year in China. Though the fatalities were significantly reduced from the peak of nearly 7,000 deaths in 2002, the situation still remains grim.Just last month, a gas leak at a coal mine in central China's Henan Province left more than 30 people dead.
