Buying a home has been part of the American dream for as long as we can remember, but as home prices rise and competition grows, that dream can be difficult to make a reality. However, things might be changing as new homes are being built specifically for renters, like Carole Goemans. Goemans made the decision to move back to Colorado from San Antonio to be close to family. “We lived there for 14 years and then my husband passed 2 and a half years ago and we have to make decisions,” said Goemans. “Colorado has changed a lot. I’ve lived here for many, many years, since I was 5 years old and I taught for 38 years. At that time, homes were a lot cheaper.”Enter Avilla Homes, a community full of homes built for renters, not for home buyers. "These are renters by choice," said Reed Ruck with Avilla. Ruck says folks like Goemans have all of the benefits of owning a house without the mortgage."Helping individuals find obtainable housing and not as expensive as a mortgage, but still provides a single family feel and living space," said Ruck. The struggle to afford a home is growing in America, especially in a fast growing state like Colorado where the average rent is ,300 a month, according to SmartAsset. When it comes to the monthly rent for Avilla Homes, Ruck says you can expect to pay slightly less or comparable to a mortgage in the same area.In Colorado, the average home costs 6,000, making a mortgage around ,500 a month, SmartAsset says. For someone like Goemans, who isn't in the market to buy a home, communities like Avilla provide the chance to live the American dream.“It’s luxury without a lot of bucks and that’s hard to find,” said Goemans. “As long as I can stay vertical and keep smiling, this is it.”Ruck says these communities are a growing trend across the country and there's another one in Phoenix. 1849

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Louisiana Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards will narrowly win reelection, beating out Republican challenger Eddie Rispone, CNN projected Saturday night.Edwards will claim victory in a deep red state President Donald Trump won by 20 percentage points in 2016, and against a businessman who closely aligned himself with the President. Trump held two rallies in Louisiana over the past 10 days, but the attempt at a last-minute boost was not enough to carry Rispone over the finish line.Last month, Edwards was forced into a runoff election after falling short of the majority vote needed to clinch reelection. He was the top vote getter (47%) in the jungle primary in which all candidates, regardless of party affiliation, ran against each other. Rispone got 27% of the vote, Republican Ralph Abraham got 24%, and Republican Patrick Landry got 1%.Edwards, 53, is the only statewide elected Democrat in Louisiana. He has accomplished the national Democratic priority of expanding Medicaid, but has been far to the right of his party on some social issues -- including abortion rights and gun control. He is a former Army Ranger who describes himself as pro-guns and a pro-life Democrat. Earlier this year, Edwards signed a bill banning abortions once a heartbeat is detectable with no exceptions for rape or incest. He was the minority leader of the Louisiana House of Representatives before being elected governor in 2015. As governor, Edwards signed an executive order to expand Medicaid in the state, and supports a modest increase to Louisiana's minimum wage, according to his campaign website. He touts cutting taxes and state government spending while in office, and working across party lines.Rispone is a 70-year-old businessman with a background in construction, and is a first-time candidate. A longtime donor, he spent millions of dollars of his own money on his campaign. He bills himself as a "conservative outsider," and is an ardent Trump supporter. He has campaigned on banning sanctuary cities and cracking down on illegal immigration, and is a vocal critic of the ongoing impeachment inquiry.Edwards won office back in 2015 on somewhat of a fluke. Polling showed him only clearly beating one Republican in a runoff, scandal-ridden David Vitter, and Vitter was the Republican who managed to secure a runoff spot alongside Edwards. Edwards was helped by then-Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal driving up the state budget deficit and providing the political environment for Edwards to win. 2526

Businesses have been adding new features like ultraviolet light cleaning to offices. Now, it could be coming to vehicles in response to COVID-19 concerns. A third of car shoppers say they're more likely to consider air quality features for their next vehicle than before the pandemic, according to a survey from Cox Automotive.“Historically, I think people had this conception of if it looks clean, it must be clean right, but now going forward, the question is well it looks clean but is it sanitized?” said Pratik Patel, President of RideKleen. “And I think for people to feel safe getting into the car, knowing that OK there was some process of sanitization or some cleaning process that could protect them from bacteria and viruses is going to be important going forward.”Car companies are looking into systems like including a fixed UV light that would provide sanitization treatment while you're inside. The feature could also be integrated into the car's air conditioning system, so as the air circulates, it would continuously sanitize.“I would be shocked if car makers are not thinking about this for the future,” said Patel. “It doesn't exist today, so right now it is really third parties implementing either it's a service or a component that's added onto the vehicle.”Patel points out ride share vehicles are especially a concern with the number of people getting in and out of them frequently, and the cars not necessarily being disinfected between each customer. Car companies are working on a proactive way to deal with that. 1553

Artificial intelligence is being used by companies around the world, allowing many stories to go cashierless.Mike Fogarty, founder of Choice Market, says great food, service and quick check-outs are essential.“Currently, we have the ability for folks to order online on an app and use one of our self-checkouts back here,” Fogarty says. “We also have a traditional point of sale over here.”In six months, Choice Market plans to introduce a cashierless system using artificial intelligence technology.“Using cameras, sensors and other things within the store to monitor what’s being taken off the shelf, what a customer is walking out with, and ultimately, charging it to their credit card or the app,” Fogarty explains. However, Choice Market isn’t the only store doing this. Amazon Go stores are popping up across the country.“Many other retailers, including ourselves, are looking at this as a way to really enhance the customer experience,” Fogarty says. “And [in] my opinion, you will see this in almost every retailer in the very near future.”As far as jobs go, Fogarty says he doesn’t plan on letting any employees go once the new stores open. 1161

Authorities who'd been searching for Aiden Castiel Salcido, the 2-year-old son of a couple who died in an apparent murder-suicide, think they've found the child's remains in a remote section of Montana, police said Sunday.Witnesses called in tips and led officials to a camp believed to have been occupied by the child's parents, police in Medford, Oregon, said in a statement."Positive identification has not been made, however the decedent was located in the same area that Hannah Janiak and Daniel Salcido were seen by several witnesses days earlier," the news release said. The FBI and police in Medford were 624
