(KGTV) — La Mesa's police chief said the incident where a woman was shot in the head with a bean bag round during last weekend's protest is under investigation.LMPD Chief Walt Vasquez said during a press conference that the officer involved has been identified and that the incident was being investigated.Mayor Mark Arapostathis said another press conference would be held to follow up on the investigation. "The incident is under review and will be addressed at a future press conference. She and hundreds of other people were protesting police violence and the death of George Floyd.Furcron's son, Ahmed, said after the press conference that the department's response was not enough. "We want to know what's going on. My mom is 59-years-old. She didn't break any laws. She wasn't being violent or nothing. We want answers. She was shot between the eyes. (KGTV) — A 5.0-magnitude earthquake was reported just outside Ridgecrest, Calif., Thursday.The quake struck about 25 miles north of Ridgecrest, Calif., just before 2 p.m. The earthquake had a depth of about one and a half miles deep, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.According to the USGS' "Did You Feel It?" map, shaking could be felt from as far away as San Diego and Coronado. Responses were also reported from Las Vegas, Nev., the map showed.No injuries or damages to structures were immediately reported.Ridegcrest was hit by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake on July 5. Several aftershocks and earthquakes have been recorded in the region during the month following the massive shakeup. 720

(KGTV) — East County residents say they're behind a local dog rescue's efforts to provide for canines, but that the facility has been operating dangerously.Suzy Avalos lives next door to the Happy Hearts German Shepherd Rescue, which is run out of a La Mesa home. She tells 10News the dogs that reside in the yard have had no problem jumping the fence."You see the fence is not high. It's right up here. The dogs don't have a problem jumping over this fence," Avalos said. "I've lived here for 10 years and it's just progressively getting worse."RELATED: Disease fatal to dogs that can spread to humans on the rise in some statesWhen the dogs escape they can also be aggressive, neighbors say, with at least one dangerous incident being recorded. 10News obtained records from the La Mesa Police Department showing at least 28 instances where officers responded to the dog rescue to help round up escaped canines or help people who say they were attacked by the dogs."We have a lot of people on this street that have young kids and I'm just worried a child is going to get bit or something worse is going to happen," Avalos said. "They're out of control and she should not have a license."The woman who runs the dog rescue, Donna, declined an interview by 10News. While they support the idea of rescuing the dogs, they say it needs to be done more responsibly.
