ST. LOUIS (AP) — A grand jury has indicted the St. Louis couple who displayed guns while hundreds of racial injustice protesters marched on their private street. A lawyer for Mark McCloskey and his wife, Patricia McCloskey, confirmed the indictments Tuesday. A spokeswoman for Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner declined comment.The McCloskeys, who are both attorneys, have become folk heroes among some conservatives. They argue that they were simply exercising their Second Amendment right to bear arms, and were protected by Missouri’s castle doctrine law that allows the use of deadly force against intruders. The case has caught the attention of President Donald Trump, and Republican Missouri Gov. Mike Parson has said he will pardon the couple if they are convicted.The McCloskeys also were featured speakers on the first night of the Republican National Convention. They’ve accused the “leftist” Democratic St. Louis leadership for their plight.Gardner, a Democrat, charged the couple with felony unlawful use of a weapon. She said the display of guns risked bloodshed at what she called an otherwise peaceful protest.Watkins said that in addition to the weapons charge, the grand jury indictment includes a tampering with evidence charge. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed on Tuesday that legislators would not go home for the holidays without an approval of a stimulus bill.“We're not leaving here without a COVID package. It's not gonna happen. We're gonna stay here until we get a COVID package. No matter how long it takes, we’ll be here,” McConnell said.Last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a similar proclamation.But both sides have been working on economic relief for months, but have failed to come to any sort of compromise. But a major sticking point is on whether companies should be protected from coronavirus-related lawsuits. The White House and McConnell have said companies need this protection in order to stay open amid the pandemic. Pelosi and Democrats are against the proposal, citing concerns that businesses will not follow public health guidelines.“This is protection for our small businesses, so that they're not held liable for COVID incidences through no fault of their own,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said on Tuesday. ”And (Pelosi is) really playing up to the trial lawyers and opposing liability protection, which should be something that's just mere common sense.”Two weeks ago, a bipartisan group of legislators proposed a 0 billion stimulus plan that would extend funds for additional unemployment benefits for up to 18 weeks per worker. The legislation also would replenish funds for the Paycheck Protection Program, which helped companies affected by the pandemic make payroll.There would also be 0 billion earmarked for state and local governments, which have seen a drop in tax revenue due to the pandemic. It’s unclear, however, if that measure would gain enough support to pass, given McConnell’s and Trump’s past opposition to providing pandemic relief to state and local governments facing cuts amid a drop in tax revenue.Another area of contention is on whether Congress should provide Americans with a second round of stimulus checks. SIGNAL HILL (CNS) - A single-engine airplane made a safe landing on a street near Long Beach Airport today, with no injuries reported.The airplane, which had just taken off from the airport, set down about 10:15 a.m. in the 2700 block of Orange Avenue, said airport spokeswoman Cassie Chauvel.The Long Beach Fire Department said in a Twitter posting that the plane ``lost power shortly after performing a touch and go off runway 26L.''The pilot was unhurt, and there was no damage to the plane, according to the LBFD.The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the pilot was the lone occupant of the Piper PA28. 625

Since motorists stayed off the road during the Thanksgiving holiday due to the coronavirus pandemic, gasoline sales in the United States during the holiday week fell to its lowest level since 1997.According to an IHS Markit Oil Price Information Service survey (OPIS), gas consumption fell 8.4%, or about 185 million gallons, from the previous week ending Nov. 28.Demand for motor fuel was down 19.3% compared to 2019, OPIS said.IHS Markit executive director Tom Kloza warns that the market could still get worse by year's end as more and more Americans decide to reduce holiday travel due to COVID-19."We're heading toward a 90-day period where gasoline demand gets further crimped by winter weather and post-holiday cocooning," Kloza said in a press release.
