INDIANAPOLIS -- The 16-year-old adopted son of a man killed in a house fire last week has been charged as an adult with murder, arson and auto theft, court records show.Jordan Marin-Doan, 16, was arrested on Saturday in connection to the fire that killed his adopted father, 45-year-old Jason Doan, last Thursday.Doan’s husband, Alan Marin, and their two other adopted children were able to escape the home safely.Marin told police he and his husband woke up to find a fire blocking their exit. Doan helped Marin and two of their children escape through an upstairs window, before succumbing to the flames and smoke inhalation."He saved me and my kids," Marin said. "He gave his life for us, making sure we were OK. He got me out with my kids and told me to take them to a safe place. That was his priority -- our kids -- making sure they were safe."READ | Indy fire leaves man in critical conditionAfter escaping the house, Marin realized his adopted son, Marin-Doan, was missing along with the family's Jeep.Marin-Doan was taken into custody in Adams County two days after the fire.On Tuesday, Marin-Doan was waived to adult court, court records show.According to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case, fire investigators determined a fuel commonly used in weed eaters had been poured on the carpet of a stairwell in the house.Following his arrest, Marin-Doan reportedly admitted to police that he poured the fuel out in the house and then lit it with a lighter.Marin told police that Marin-Doan had been threatening to kill everyone in the house. According to the affidavit, the most recent threat was made on Oct. 28 – less than a week before the fire.Marin-Doan allegedly wanted to kill his adopted parents so “he could get a cell next to his biological father in prison.”Police said Marin-Doan was not mad at the time of his arrest and said he did not know why he started the fire. He also allegedly told police he'd started another fire in the past at a different location.As of Tuesday evening, an initial hearing for Marin-Doan in adult court had not yet been set.  2104

In fact, according to Ballotpedia, most states will only accept votes for certain pre-approved write-in candidates.Ballotpedia reports that only eight states — Alabama, Delaware, Iowa, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Vermont, and Wyoming — will count the write-in votes for any write-in candidate. And of those states, it appears only Vermont publishes the name of every write-in candidate on its election results webpage.Write-in candidates received 1,942 votes for president in Vermont in the 2020 presidential election. That's compared to the 242,820 that Biden received in carrying the state. It's also more than the 1,269 that independent candidate Kanye West received, despite being listed on the ballot.Among write-in candidates, Sen. Bernie Sanders received the most with 619. That's not exactly a surprise — the left-wing, progressive senator calls the state home and is currently in the midst of his third term as one of the state's senators.Other top vote-getters included moderate Republicans like Sen. Mitt Romney (57 votes) and former Ohio Gov. John Kasich (30 votes). Candidates who sought the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, like Rep. It’s that time, when stores offer up their best deals on the hottest items. Some of the advertised deals can even cause customers to stand in lines for hours and even camp out the night before the items go on sale. But this could be a big waste of time.“Don’t buy something just because it’s on sale,” says Kevin Brasler, the executive editor of the consumer watch dog group Consumer’s Checkbook.Brasler tracked sales and deals at 19 major retailers for nearly a year to find out which companies are telling the truth when advertising their sales.  "Most of these stores offering big ticket items are just offering the same deal they did before and the same deal they offered the next week,” says Brasler of his findings. “It wasn't a special price."  The worst offenders range from big box stores to high-end retailers. And with Black Friday around the corner, Brasler warns consumers to be cautious of those doorbuster deals, especially those early morning sales urging you to get up to get amazing deals on hot items before they go.   "There's for sure no reason to get excited about most of the items they are selling on Black Friday, because we found the sales they are offering then are just about the same as they otherwise are," he says.  Then there are those buy one and get one half-off sales. Brasler says these, too, are often a sham.  "These sales they just call them different sales; it's really rare that they have a super good price that you better grab right then and there otherwise it will go away forever,” Brasler says.  That's because the less expensive item is usually the one that gets the half-off deal. So, in reality, you're really not saving that much at all.Also, beware of going out of business sales.    "You're not offering them a special price; you're offering them the usual price," Brasler says.  Sometimes, the third-party liquidator prices the items higher than the original price. It's a place known for some of the most incredible sightseeing in Arizona, but even with its beauty, it's no stranger to tragedy."It breaks my heart," said Andrea Lankford, a former park ranger at the Grand Canyon National Park. "I looked at her pictures. She looks like such a nice person. I'm sorry to her family."Arizona resident, 59-year-old Maria Andrea Salgado Lopez, died Friday, July 3, after falling off a rim west of Mather Point. It's an area Lankford says can see hundreds of tourists at a time."That's often your first view of the Grand Canyon when you come," she added. "There's also a lot of what we call 'social paths,' where people are going your own way and trying to get a unique view or unique photo."Grand Canyon Park officials say Salgado Lopez was taking photos before she fell. Her body was discovered about 100 feet below the rim."It's really sad to go out there and think you're just going for a vacation and sightseeing, and you come back without your mom or your wife," said Miriam Weiner. She and her daughter were visiting the Grand Canyon for the first time when the woman fell to her death."I saw people out in that area start to hug each other, trying to comfort each other and shield them from what they were seeing," she added. "So, that told me this is really bad."Weiner started recording video shortly after the fall, where you can hear many screaming for help."I just feel really bad for the family," she said. "I've been thinking about what they must be going through and it just brings tears to my eyes."The National Park Service says they see an average of 12 deaths a year at the Grand Canyon, but not all related to falls. Others happen due to heat-related or medical issues. However, Lankford says despite safety measures and previous incidents, falls are not uncommon.She says park rangers aren't always available to watch over visitors either."Their staffing is low and it's a busy park," she said. "Rescue Rangers could very well be busy on another incident while you're at Mather Point, so there's rarely rangers that are standing there to warn you.
