SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A World War II veteran is being honored not only for his service to our country but to the San Diego community.With the help of former students, current students, and staff at Hilltop High School in Chula Vista, the library was dedicated to World War II veteran Tom Rice. The lifelong Coronado resident was an Army paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division on D-Day. He was the first to jump out of his C-47 after it crossed the English Channel.RELATED: Retired Chula Vista teacher grateful for war hero's inspirationRice taught U.S. government in the Sweetwater Union High School District for more than 30 years, mostly at Hilltop High.The surprise was unveiled to Rice on Thursday. "Everyone has given me their grace, and I have nothing to return but just my presence, and that was it. The two women say Rice didn't talk about the war when he was a teacher; it wasn't until years later they learned of his bravery. "We are honored to know him and honored by what he did for us as students and what he did for our country," said Cappos Hardy.Rice is well known for returning to Normandy to reenact his D-Day jump in honor of those who never made it home. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An Airbnb host says his condo was damaged by a guest who used a fake name to book the home.The host, who did not want to be identified because of the crimes committed, estimated nearly ,000 in damaged furniture and stolen belongings.He said the guest, who had recently created their profile and had no prior reviews, held a party in the unit.Damage included chipped furniture, rips on the couch, stains on the carpet and what appeared to be urine on the bed.The host also said that some of his property was stolen, including a watch and some of his medications. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An autopsy report released on Trevor Heitmann, the teenager known as "McSkillet" on YouTube, is revealing details about what happened before he crashed his vehicle on Interstate 805.The report says Heitmann’s parents called the police to request a psychiatric evaluation stating, “On August 23, the decedent's parents contacted the local police department to request a psychiatric evaluation but were informed that the evaluation could not be performed as the decedent had not broken any laws."The statement means hours before Trevor Heitmann drove his car down the freeway killing two people, police were at his house.RELATED: Autopsy details mental state of McSkillet before deadly I-805 crash"Even though police are trained to identify mental health issues and mental illness issues they just can't take someone off the streets unless there is such conduct to warrant it,” said attorney Kenneth Rosenfeld.Rosenfeld, who has no connection to this case, explained law enforcement does have the ability to detain someone using the 51-50 law. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Superior Court judge gave San Diego County restaurants the green light to serve on-site again, but not all will make use of the opportunity.For Roddy Browning, the pressure to reopen his restaurant is intense.“We lay in bed at 2:30 in the morning, going, 'Okay, what am I going to do? What am I going to do tomorrow? What am I going to do the next day?'” said Browning, who owns Oceanside's Flying Pig Pub and Kitchen.Browning said sales are down 60% and employees have been reduced from 30 to 12. Reopening for outdoor dining under the new court ruling could boost those numbers.“The state's going to appeal it, and what is the point in opening back up again, and then bringing all these people back to work and saying okay guys the ruling changed, now we're going to have to kick you out of the restaurant again,” Browning said. “I don’t want to do that to my employees anymore.”Don't get him wrong. You have a couple of bad actors that don’t know how to operate the vehicle responsibly,” Zack Bartlett with LimeBike said. “The community seems to be behind the technology.  We’re also in 45 markets, so this isn’t our first rodeo.
