LATHROP, Calif. – It’s a common trope for firefighters to rescue cats from trees, but you rarely hear of dogs getting into that kind of sticky situation.However, that was the case for a German Shepard in Northern California on Saturday.The Lathrop Manteca Fire District says the pup chased a cat up a tree and then found itself stuck in the high branches. Luckily, firefighters with the department’s Engine 35 were called to the scene and managed to rescue the dog. Once on solid ground, the crews provided oxygen and water to the adventurous pup.“Glad to hear that all turned out well for this pooch, and we are all pretty sure he’ll think twice about chasing cats up the next tree...nice work Engine 35!” wrote the fire department. 746

James Wiseman, the freshman basketball star for the University of Memphis who accepted payment in 2017 from his future college coach for his family's housing, has been suspended for 11 additional games and has been ordered to pay ,500. After being ruled ineligible entering the 2019 season, Wiseman sued to be reinstated before the season. A judge issued an injunction, legally forcing Memphis to play Wiseman despite him being ineligible. After playing three games, Wiseman dropped the suit. The NCAA said that Wiseman playing three games despite being ineligible was considered as part of the penalty. "The benefit was impermissible because of Hardaway’s status as a Memphis booster," the NCAA said in a statement. "Hardaway had made donations to the school in the past, including million to help build the Penny Hardaway Athletic Hall of Fame at the school. (AP) — Some patients treated by a Tennessee dentist have been advised to get tested for HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.The Tennessee Department of Health issued the recommendation after finding that Knoxville dentist Clarence “Buzz” Nabers did not ensure proper sterilization of dental equipment, news outlets reported.The recommendation was included in a letter Nabers sent to patients who visited his practice between Sept. 15, 2016, and Sept. 15, 2019.Nabers was fined ,000 for the improper sterilization and his license was put on probation. Nabers said previously that he has implemented protocols to correct the issues.The letter says the chance of being exposed to any infection is “very remote” and there haven’t been any reports of sickness. 784

And tornadoes shifting to this region can take a devastating toll. On Sunday, an EF-4 tornado ripped through Alabama's Lee County killing 23 people and cutting a path of destruction at least 24 miles long.It's not an anomaly that tornadoes appear in the Southeast every year, but they present different vulnerabilities, said Victor Gensini, professor of meteorology at Northern Illinois University."As you move east from Kansas to Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, the population density increases rapidly and we also have an issue in the Southeast of more mobile homes," he said. "If you get hit in a mobile home from a tornado, you're much more likely to be killed. You just have a really unique exposure and vulnerability problem."Gensini was co-author on a study that started tracking tornadoes in 1979 and they observed a shift towards the Southeast around 2008.Dixie Alley includes portions of East Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.
