After his kids moved out he and his wife decided to remodel the bathroom. Gregg suggested the idea and his wife was all for it."Convinced my wife that that was a good idea and fortunately she agreed with me," Thompson said.Inside he has two Masters flags. One was signed by Bubba Watson, the 2012 winner, and the other was signed by Ben Crenshaw who won the 1984 and 1995 Masters tournament. He has old school clubs, a Masters hat, a Masters shower curtain, multiple Masters books, a Masters 'Quiet Please' sign, and of course he has a mini putting green inside there. He uses his dad's old putter and said that if he can sink it in the bathroom with that ancient club, he will have a good day on the course."I feel like I'm almost there. Senate Republicans have reportedly drafted a new version of a potential coronavirus stimulus package — but it's unlikely that the bill will be considered for at least a few weeks.CNN and The New York Times reports that Republican Senators are discussing a stimulus package that would include extended federal unemployment benefits, cash for schools and even billion in funding for the post office.ABC News reports that the bill's total cost would be about 0 billion.In terms of unemployment benefits, Republicans' proposed legislation would reportedly offer 0 a week — about half of the 0 benefits the federal government paid out between March and July.Democrats have said they would like the 0 weekly benefits to be extended through the end of the year and expanded to self-employed workers and gig workers.When the 0 CARES Act unemployment benefits expired in July, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to resume benefits at 0 a week, with the requirement that states pay a portion of those benefits. Spring Valley, Calif. (KGTV) - The new Homeless Assistance Resource Team is expanding to battle the growing homeless population, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The program started in June. Their goal is to connect homeless people with services, like getting a driver's license, food stamps, or healthcare."It's not new to the sheriff's department, but having three full time deputies assigned to the mission is new." Deputy Matthew Faddis said they accompany the myriad of service agencies on their mission into obscure parts of town known to house homeless people.Faddis said it was to ensure the social workers, nurses and other workers' safety, and make them feel comfortable to do their job.Deputy Faddis said the department is working to help more people, "starting out doing this about once a week, we hope to expand that and eventually get the full time team doing this every single day."In Spring Valley, 10News walked with the team down into a concrete canal covered in graffiti. The couple they spoke with was given Hep A shots, hand sanitizer, water, and set up with a ride to get to an office where they can get set up for services tomorrow."If you don't have skills to communicate, if you don't have skills to be there on time, you get a stigma of, 'oh people don't care, there just going through my file anyway,' it doesn't matter." Kristin Kerrick said that's part of the reason why homeless people don't want to talk with the team. She said they are also scared.She's lived out of her car for the past year working to regain stability."There's a place in La Mesa that accepts Section 8 and I qualify, so it's really exciting, it's been so long, it's been a really long time so I'm really thankful," Kerrick said smiling ear to ear.Once under a roof for six months, she said she can try to get her four kids back, "we can see if they are already adopted out, or if they can break through the adoption, and go get the kids back, because I'm able to provide for them now and I'm under a program and she'll talk to me about that so not yet."Stories like hers, fueling the HART team forward. 2135

SPRING VALLEY (KGTV) -- Some neighbors in Spring Valley want the county to do more to address the large cluster of homeless tents at Lamar Park. Residents say the park’s homeless population has skyrocketed in recent months. At least two dozen tents lined Bancroft Drive outside the park gates Tuesday morning.“Our heart goes out to the homeless people, but when there’s drugs going on, people finding needles, the dogs are running loose, you can’t even bring your kids over to enjoy the park,” said neighbor Joe Fearce.RELATED: Del Mar neighbors aid woman living in car with 300 pet ratsThe county has posted signs saying it will clear the park January 13 for a major cleaning, but Fearce and other residents say that tactic has failed before.“They came in two or three Tuesdays ago. They cleaned everything out. By 3 o’clock, [the homeless people] were all back and then some,” Fearce said. “They know they can’t be arrested if there’s nowhere for them to go.”Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court solidified a lower court’s ruling that protects the rights of homeless people to camp in parks or on sidewalks if there is no other shelter available. Ron Helus had been set to retire in the next year from the Ventura County, California Sheriff's Office when, responding late Wednesday to a call of a shooting, he entered the Borderline Bar & Grill.It would be the last act of a 29-year law enforcement veteran described as hardworking and dedicated and, now, as a hero.Helus was among the first officers through the door at the Borderline. He died trying to stop the rampaging gunman, who killed 11 others in the attack in Thousand Oaks, California."He went into save lives, to save other people." Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said of Helus, his voice breaking."He was totally committed, he gave his all, and tonight, as I told his wife, he died a hero," he said.Helus succumbed to his wounds at a hospital, police said.
