CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Two drivers were arrested at a checkpoint for driving under the influence of alcohol and one driver was arrested on an outstanding warrant, authorities said today.The checkpoint was set up in the 600 block of Palomar Street between 7 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Officer Oscar Miranda of the Chula Vista Police Department.Of the 1,118 vehicles traveling through the checkpoint, 406 were screened and six drivers were given sobriety tests, Miranda said.Officers issued 12 citations to drivers who were unlicensed or had a suspended license, Miranda said. Monday to reconsider plans to lay off roughly 300 employees at the company's Chula Vista manufacturing plant as it looks toward shuttering the facility entirely.Reps. Juan Vargas, D-Chula Vista, and Scott Peters, D-San Diego, joined California Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris to push back against the layoffs. Vargas and Peters also requested that the company answer a list of questions about how UTC decided to shutter the plant and how involved the machinists union was in the discussion.UTC notified workers in July of the company's plan to close the factory by 2020."We understand that complex domestic and international markets factor into these difficult decisions; however, we note that UTC's company website says it creates products for one of the ‘fastest growing industries on the planet,"' Vargas and Peters said in a letter to UTC Aerospace Systems President David Gitlin. "This robust characterization of the industry seems to conflict with the decision to eliminate hundreds of production jobs."UTC's plant in Chula Vista has operated since 1940 and produces engine pods and mounts for aerospace companies like Boeing and Airbus. (KGTV) -- A suspect police say led them on a chase in a car that was reported stolen has been arrested.Chula Vista Police say they received a report of a stolen Honda Civic Tuesday. After spotting the car around 3:02 p.m. Wednesday near I-5 and E Street, police tried to pull the driver over, but he led them on a chase through city streets, running several red lights in the process. The suspect then drove onto State Route 54. After the suspect began to drive east in the westbound lanes, police called off the chase.Shortly after police called off the chase, the suspect got out of the car and ran into the Villa Bonita apartment complex. The suspect was arrested after residents at the complex were able to point out which unit the the man went into.  808
