SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Federal Reserve's decision to lower its key interest rate to near zero will help some San Diegans, but frustrate others.The Fed reduced its Federal Funds Rate to near zero for the first time since the Great Recession of 2008. The move, in reponse to the Coronavirus outbreak, will help keep auto loan rates low and mortgage rates near historic lows. It will also, however, lower earnings from interest bearing savings accounts. Greg McBride, chief financial analyst for Bankrate, predicted the economy to go into a recession, but said the low borrowing rates would help jump start spending once activity picks up again. "Coming out of that, one of the things that's going to give the economy a boost to recover from that will be these brutally low interest rates that entice consumers and businesses to resume borrowing and spending," McBride said. "Somebody concerned about losing their job is not going to go to go out and buy a car."Mortgage rates are already extremely low, with the average rate for a 30-year fixed is 3.36 percent. Still, that's above the all-time lows reached earlier this month, when the Federal Reserve made its first emergency cut. Bahn Bao on Camino Ruiz, the staff is busy making steamed Vietnamese buns, days after an unappetizing discovery. "Scared, anxiety, disbelief," said Travis Nguyen, who owns the restaurant.When she got in on Thursday morning, she found loose change all over and the drawer of the cash register gone. The surveillance video revealed what happened. Just before 3 a.m., a figure is seen crouched low, shining a flashlight into the restaurant. After a few moments, the man pries open the door and walks in."It appeared he used a homemade tool to break the panic bar. It took him only a few seconds to get in," said Lon Holliday of Convoy Street Locksmith, the company that repaired the door.In the video, the man quickly heads to the cash register, removes the drawer and about 0 in cash."He knows what he's doing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation are looking for two women they say walked away from the Custody to Community Transitional Reentry Program.The department says, while conducting a room search Thursday, staff discovered a cell phone in a room shared by Karen Flores, 26, and Gisselle Rivas, 20.A short while later, it was discovered that both women removed their ankle monitors and walked away from the facility.Flores is a Hispanic female, 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 168 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Authorities say she was serving more than two years at the facility for second-degree burglary and grand theft.Rivas is a Hispanic female, 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 148 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
