(KGTV) Firefighters continue to mop up after the Valley Fire tore through Lawson Valley, burning 17,665 acres.Messages of gratitude for the crews on the frontlines can be seen throughout the area.At least 30 homes and 31 minor structures were destroyed, but all evacuation orders and road closures were lifted on Friday.In much of the burn area, firetrucks have been replaced with utility vehicles.“I watched the flames start coming over the mountain, like fingers, like some creature,” said Seth Matteson who lives in Lawson Valley.He left his home as the fire started to spread Sept. 5, fearing the worst, but was thankful to come home and find his house on Prairie Drive still standing.“In the back it came right up to the house, and in the front it came right up to the house,” he explained.Just down the road, several homes and vehicles burned in the fire.“I’ve been through 8 hurricanes, and this is way scarier to me than that. SAN DIEGO, California — A former Major League Baseball pitcher was awarded .3 million for injuries sustained after punching a man reportedly on LSD outside his Northern California home.Greg Reynolds claimed his career was cut short after he broke his hand punching Domenic Pintarelli on Jan. 16, 2015. Reynolds' attorney?Niall McCarthy says his client was attacked outside his home by Pintarelli, who was attending a party next door at a neighbor's house.McCarthy said both Pintarelli and the neighbor, Connor Pope, had taken LSD. Pope did not attack Reynolds but Pintarelli did, he alleges.Reynolds punched Pintarelli, breaking his pitching hand and costing his ability to "move and control" a baseball, McCarthy argues. Evidently, a jury agreed, awarding the former MLB pitcher .3 million in damages. The award includes 0,000 for Greg Reynolds's wife, Megan.Reynolds started pitching for the Colorado Rockies' minor league team in 2006 before moving up to the big leagues in 2008. He also pitched for the Texas Rangers in 2012 and the Cincinnati Reds in 2013.Reynolds went on to pitch in Japan in 2014 before the incident. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— The San Diego Police Department's Eastern Division opened up their “Trunk or Treat Haunted Station” to more than 500 kids the Skyline neighborhood. Officers and community members helped to transform the station, and students from Morse High School played monsters in the haunted house. The tradition began four years ago, with the goal of connecting the community with law enforcement.  “It’s so safe. It’s so fun. The kids are having a blast,” one woman said, as her cousin played with the police equipment on display.Outside the station, sponsors gave out candy and snow cones. Officers allowed Trick-Or-Treaters to tour the inside of a SWAT vehicle and ride a police motorcycle. “When I was a child, we didn’t have a place like this to come to,” one woman said, as her grandchildren played inside the SWAT vehicle. “As I was growing up, they would say 'Don’t eat the candy. Things are unsafe.' But we’re so glad to be here because we know our kids are safe here.”Residents said this was exactly what the community needed-- An experience that not only keeps the streets safe, but builds good relationships between residents and law enforcement. “A lot of the kids said, 'I want to be a police officer when I grow up.' And that’s what we want. We want kids from this neighborhood to get interested in becoming a police officer,” Lt. Ernesto Servin of SDPD said.  1414
