The three of them search the streets, sidewalks, and parking lots."I have a facemask, gloves," said Reyes as he picked up trash.There are bad surprises and sometimes good. On this day the Publix parking lot was clean.No matter the weather, Reyes is out there."Six times a week. Sometimes seven," said Reyes.Reyes has been picking up trash since his days on the west coast of Florida, back when life threw him a curveball."Aortic valve replacement and an aneurism repaired," said Reyes.Following his recovery, Reyes started walking and gathering trash."I can’t go long distances like I used to. So walking is very healthy for me and that’s a big reason why I do it," said Reyes. "I came out here and continue the effort in Boynton Beach."At the end of his cleanups, he weighs his garbage. He collects data too."43,200 pounds of litter this year," said Reyes.Proof that Reyes has a long journey ahead of him, but he knows each step along South Florida’s streets, inches him closer to his goal. (KGTV) -- Sweetwater Bike Park in Bonita is the first of its kind for San Diego County parks, and it was a long time in the making."As an organization, we have been advocating for over 10 years for this type of park in the county, so we're thrilled," says Susie Murphy, the Executive Director of the San Diego Mountain Biking Association.The park opened in January, and riders of all ages and levels showed up on two wheels."On opening day, I like to say the youngest rider was seventeen months old, and the oldest was seventy-four. It's for all ages, from tiny kids on their Strider bikes, up to teenagers from the neighborhood on their BMX bikes," Murphy says.And Murphy says she loves the design of the park. It comes with jumps, two flow trails, and a skills zone."Every day it puts a smile on my face," Murphy says. Unfortunately, soon after the park opened, it had to be shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "We did not know what to expect, it was definitely a disappointment," added Murphy.The park was closed for a couple of months, but is now back open for business, but with a few rule changes."Right now we're only letting fifty people come in at a time," says Park Ranger Adair Flores. "They are required to wear a mask when they come in and they do have to stay six feet apart from each other. They can't group up in the gazebo areas when they are riding, and it's recommended they wear a mask, but you know, it's harder to breathe with it." 1482

BOULDER, Colo. – A 12-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted while holding a Trump sign as he rode his bicycle this week, according to a statement provided by the victim’s father to the Boulder Police Department.Jesse Rosales told officers his son came home from a bike ride early Monday afternoon and told him a woman had assaulted him.The boy told his father a woman on a moped spotted him, made a U-turn, drove up to him and said, “You want something to look at?”Police said the woman then used a closed fist to strike the boy in the back of the head and arms several times, and also caused a scratch on the boy’s left arm. While it did not cause pain, the boy told his father the scratch “burned,” according to the report.The police report states the woman then reportedly tried to take the Trump sign from the boy’s hands, who was using it to defend himself against the attack before she took off.The boy described the woman as white, in her late 20s to mid-30s with blondish brown hair past her shoulders. She was last seen wearing a small tan jacket, a blue shirt and blue jeans and was riding a grayish blue moped with a black seat.The boy said it wasn’t the first time he’s been attacked for showing support for President Donald Trump, though it is the first time it’s been done by an adult, the boy claimed.The boy said he was just holding the sign between his arms and riding his bike when the alleged assault happened, contradicting what the Boulder police report states – that the boy had the sign showing on the back of his bike.Recalling the attack, the boy said the woman “just looked at me and laughed” as she passed him before she reportedly started hitting him.The boy said he was confused as the attack was happening and said he is disappointed with people who attack others solely for their political views.“I like showing what I believe in,” the boy said. “I didn’t want any conflict – I just wanted to show what I believe in," the boy said.The boy, who said he’s now scared to show his support for Trump, asked for mutual respect and also asked that people stop attacking one another.“Just don’t attack people ‘cause what she did to me – that’s not okay,” he said.In a statement Wednesday evening, the Republican National Committee called on Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and Colorado Democrats to “disavow this act of hatred and violence on a child.”Boulder police said the boy’s father wants to pursue criminal charges against the woman.This article was written by óscar Contreras and Adi Guajardoor KMGH. 2549

BALTIMORE, Maryland — In the early hours of Jan. 19, 2015, the 15-foot Christmas tree proudly displayed in the Great Room of a large Annapolis, Maryland mansion caught fire.It spread through the home killing Sher Grogg's brother, sister-in-law, and their four young grandchildren.“They just didn’t have enough time to do anything, and it was under three minutes and everything was gone,” Grogg said.It's painful for her to talk about, even more distressing to see rooms engulfed in flames, but as an advocate for Common Voices, a coalition whose mission is a fire safe America, she witnesses fire demonstrations.“Oh, it’s horrible. And actually, really horrifying for me to see because I know my brother was right in the middle of a room that had flashover and that was his last experience,” said Grogg.This is her outlet to grieve. She's found purpose in educating and warning others. Had her brother’s home had fire sprinklers, she thinks her family would still be here today.“You can replace material things, but you can't replace a life and that's the difference. You really need to consider fire sprinklers to save the lives of your family,” said Grogg.Shane Ray is the president of the National Fire Sprinkler Association. He’s been in the fire service since 1984 and has seen how smoke detectors alone are not enough to prevent deaths.“We have more contents in our home than we've ever had before and most of those contents are made out of synthetic materials, so it produces a much more toxic smoke, much faster and much more deadly,” Ray said.On Thursday, he demonstrated how quickly a fire spreads. Within a minute, flames and smoke engulfed a tiny room. The smoke alarm sounded then the sprinklers went off. In a side-by-side comparison, the same room, without sprinklers, is completely destroyed by the fire.Ray said the sprinklers give families time to evacuate, buy firefighters time to get to the incident, and can save the lives of our pets.“Ninety-six percent of fires are contained with just one sprinkler. This is the sprinkler that came out of that fire. So, if we had another 10 rooms in the house, this is the only sprinkler that would activate. It's not tied to the smoke alarm, it's not tied to anything else, it's individually heat-activated,” said Ray, attempting to dispel some myths surrounding sprinklers.The heat in a room must reach 155 degrees before the bulb in the sprinkler shatters, releasing water. Burnt toast or cigar smoke will not set off fire sprinklers.According to the National Fire Protection Association, more than 2,500 people die in home fires each year. Sprinklers decrease the risk of dying in a house fire by 80 percent.Grogg also wants to remind people with this upcoming holiday season to water your tree every day, get rid of it right after the holiday, and unplug your tree every night.National Fire Prevention Week runs through Oct. 13.
