SHAVER LAKE, Calif. (AP) — More than 200 people were airlifted to safety after a fast-moving wildfire trapped them in a popular camping area in California's Sierra National Forest. The California Office of Emergency Services said Black Hawk and Chinook helicopters were used for the rescues that began Saturday night and continued overnight. At least two people were severely injured and 10 more suffered moderate injuries. The Creek Fire exploded in size amid sweltering temperatures Saturday and chewed through extremely dry vegetation, cutting off evacuation routes to Mammoth Pool Reservoir. SOUTHPORT, Ind. -- The health department is investigating, and an employee has been fired after a customer received raw chicken from a Dairy Queen in Southport, Indiana.Zach Cruse said he picked up some food at the drive-thru at the Dairy Queen off Southport Road just before the restaurant closed around 10 p.m. Friday night. When he got home, he realized he didn’t exactly get what he had ordered.“I got a couple bites in and was like, this doesn’t taste right,” said Cruse. “I looked at it – ripped it open and realized it was completely raw.”Dairy Queen says after receiving the complaint from Cruse they immediately contacted the Marion County Health Department. They also fired the employee involved because they say they failed to check the temperature of the cooking chicken before serving it.The Marion County Health Department said they investigate every complaint they receive, and they plan to go out and check the restaurant’s procedures to see if there are any issues with their food preparation process.“I just don’t want somebody else to eat raw chicken and I don’t want to eat raw chicken,” said Cruse. “If it happened at Dairy Queen, how much gross food have I eaten that I’m not aware of because I just have trusted that the food I’m going to get is going to be safe?” 1304
SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A driver was arrested Monday morning after hitting several parked vehicles and shearing a fire hydrant in Spring Valley, sending water towards nearby homes and a church.According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at around 5:15 a.m. in the 9100 block of Akard Street.CHP officials said the man struck at least two parked vehicles, hit a fire hydrant and then lost control, causing his truck to flip over. The driver crawled out of his truck and tried to run away, but officers captured him a few blocks away. When the truck slammed into the fire hydrant, it caused a geyser that reached up to 40 feet in the air and flooded nearby homes and the Grace Covenant Church. Most of the water damage affected the WOW Christian Preschool at the church. School director Sally Gutierrez said both of the classrooms sustained heavy water damage, as well as the playground areas."The floor, the carpets, it all got pretty wet," said Gutierrez. "There's even water dripping down the walls from upstairs."Water crews were able to shut off the geyser after about 20 minutes. The preschool reopened in May after closing during the coronavirus pandemic. Only 10 students were enrolled, but they had planned to expand to 30 students in the fall to start the new school year."We don't really know how long we'll be closed now," said Gutierrez. "Everything's on hold. The car that crashed, it affected to many of the neighbors, but it affected us as well, and all of our families."The driver, who was placed under arrest, was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries. No one else was hurt. 1643
