A Long Island man is facing charges after striking protesters with his vehicle Monday evening at a Black Lives Matter march, police in Suffolk County said.Authorities said Anthony Cambareri, 36, was driving his Toyota RAV4 westbound on Broadway in Huntington Station when he struck two protesters standing in the roadway around 6:45 p.m.The two pedestrians were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.Police said Cambareri fled the scene but was caught moments later.Facebook user Matthew Showtyme posted video on Facebook reportedly of the driver stopped just after the incident.Warning: The below video contains language some readers may find offensive. A former assistant manager of a Michigan PetSmart has filed a lawsuit in which he claims he was fired for enforcing a store rule and a state-wide mandate requiring customers to wear a mask.Alex Brothers says he called police on July 19 when he saw a customer without a mask at the chain's store in Midland. According to Brothers' attorney, Jennifer McManus, the maskless customer was carrying a gun while shopping in the store."Because the man was openly carrying a weapon, my client decided the smartest course of action was to contact law enforcement about the fact the man was not wearing a mask, as required under the governor's executive order," McManus said.Midland police escorted the man from the store without incident. Two days later, PetSmart fired Brothers, who had worked at the store since 2015 and reportedly had an "excellent" performance record."He was told, 'Well, we know you feel really strongly about this mask issue,' and that was said during the termination meeting," McManus said.Michigan is one of many states that have adopted mandates requiring masks in public. But enforcement of those mandates often falls to retail or restaurant employees — and there have been several incidents in Michigan where such confrontations have ended in violence.In July, a dispute over masks led to a police-involved shooting near Lansing, Michigan. Two months earlier, a woman in nearby Macomb County, Michigan, was accused of attacking a worker after refusing to wear a mask. Also in May, 43-year-old Calvin Munerlyn was shot in the head after asking a family to put on masks before entering a Family Dollar in Flint, Michigan.McManus said those headlines were at the top of her mind when she heard about Brothers' case."Terminating your employee for trying to do their job in these unprecedented times is really unconscionable," McManus said. A Las Vegas personal injury lawyer has been arrested in a theft case stretching back years.Beginning in March, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department detectives began to receive reports from multiple victims regarding a local personal injury lawyer. Victims that have to this date filed police reports, all allege that their personal injury attorney, later identified as 53-year-old Matthew Dunkley, misappropriated financial settlements the victims were to receive as a result of their cases in which Dunkley represented them.The reports indicated that Dunkley, in addition to misappropriating the settlements to the victims, also took money from the insurance companies that were intended to cover the victims’ medical bills. The victims never received their settlements and are now being held personally responsible for the unpaid medical bills. On Monday, Dunkley was located by detectives with the LVMPD Major Violators Section Repeat Offender Program and taken into custody. He was transported to the Clark County Detention Center where he faces at least 39 counts of theft.As of his arrest, detectives believe approximately .8 million was taken from victims.Detectives are asking any additional clients of Dunkley Law who may be awaiting settlements and were victimized by this scheme, to contact the LVMPD Theft Crimes Bureau at 702-828-3483.Clear Counsel Law Group has assumed some of the cases, but these clients may still have been victimized by Dunkley.In 2017, the Nevada bar asked Clear Counsel to assist Mr. Dunkley's former clients with open legal matters. Clear Counsel Law Group has no other relationship with Mr. Dunkley.Many of these cases were from personal injury cases that had occurred as far back as 2012, and one of the incidents involved a 5-year-old child who had been the victim of a dog attack. These victims also filed complaints with the State Bar of Nevada.According to the website of the State Bar of Nevada, Dunkley was suspended from practicing law in October of 2017. 2047
