The CDC is investigating an alarming new trend that's sending people to the hospital across the country for lung issues. Doctors are reporting a spike in severe pulmonary illnesses possibly relating to e-cigarette products or vaping. There are now more than 150 cases in at least 16 states. One of those cases was 18-year-old Chance Ammirata, who ended up in a Florida hospital after he felt pain in his chest. “It was almost as if I was having a heart attack and I couldn't breathe,” he describes. It turns out his lung collapsed, which doctors say could have happened from something he inhaled. The teen blames vaping, which he started about a year and a half ago. “I didn't think vaping could have that effect on my lungs,” he says. In Texas, 17-year-old Trystan Zohfeld spent 18 days in the hospital and lost nearly 30 pounds after his lung failed. His doctors also believe vaping could have played a factor. According to the CDC, since June vaping has been linked to more than 153 mysterious cases of lung disease, spreading from coast to coast, in at least 16 states. The common link: vaping products that contain either nicotine or THC. “We've seen the damage and the dangers of nicotine addiction, but now, we see the possibility of lung problems and others,” says John Schachter with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. Health advocates are pushing for the FDA to implement tougher restrictions, including a ban on flavored e-cigs, saying they target children. “Why are we waiting, God forbid, for a fatality? These are children. It's our job to protect them,” says Meredith Berkman, with Parents Against Vaping E-Cigarettes (PAVE). A Kingman animal hospital helped deliver 19 Great Dane puppies from one mother on Saturday morning. Kingman Animal Hospital says all of the puppies were delivered successfully, and are alive and healthy. The mother dog was also doing well after the C-section. Eleven staff members at the animal hospital helped perform the surgery and checked the puppies afterward for any issues. “Thank you all for the kind words and congrats to the momma dog and our hard working staff that came in for this emergency,” their Facebook post read. 544

A former fraternity member and student at Truman State University in Missouri allegedly provided "step-by-step" directions to five people who died by suicide in 2016 and 2017, according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday against the university, the fraternity and the student.The member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity told people he considered himself a superhero nicknamed "peacemaker," parents of two of the deceased allege in the suit, which identifies the accused as Brandon Grossheim.Grossheim counseled people with "step-by-step directions" for using their own free will and to "deal with depression," according to a news release issued by lawyers for the parents of Alex Mullins, 21, and Joshua Thomas, 18.Grossheim gave no comment to CNN's repeated requests."Both the University and the Fraternity were aware that the Plaintiff victims were vulnerable and suffered from depression, yet they still allowed this suspicious fraternity brother to be alone and have unfettered access to the victims," the release states. "This tragedy was preventable."The lawsuit alleges negligence and wrongful death and seeks unspecified damages."It is our understanding that a lawsuit has been filed by the parents of Alex Mullens and Joshua Thomas, two members of the Xi Chapter of the Fraternity of Alpha Kappa Lambda, in connection with their deaths.
