BEIJING, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Lawmakers from ethnic minorities in northwestern China's Qinghai Province on Wednesday urged for more favorable policies for the minority groups with small population, or the groups each with a population of less than 100,000."I hope the country will provide more support for industries with ethnic features in the the formulation of the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015)," said Han Yongdong, who is also head of Qinghai's Xunhua Salar Autonomous County government."We also need more support for education and employment. "We should strive for the conclusion of the Doha round negotiations in 2010 to bring about comprehensive and balanced results. We also need to redouble the efforts of the WTO to promote aid for trade, and help developing countries strengthen capacity building.""Trade is a key driver for world economic recovery," he said. UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations' top humanitarian official on Wednesday rejected as "insulting" and untrue reports about the Chinese search-and-rescue team in Haiti."I don't believe there is any truth in these accusations ... that the search-and-rescue teams favored international members of the community rather than Haitian nationals," John Holmes, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, told reporters at UN Headquarters."I think it was done in an overall fair way," he said.The Chinese team "did take the lead" in looking for the missing people in the Christopher Hotel and also looked elsewhere, he said."I really don't think that accusation of favoritism stands up at all," he said. "I think, frankly, it is insulting to the people who were doing that ... to suggest that.""As far as I know, they (the Chinese team) did an extremely effective job.
