(KGTV) — Nestled in a quiet East County business park, noise is created.Noise can mean a lot of things, but here it's considered sweet, sweet music.Taylor Guitars' El Cajon facility is working to usher in the latest era of guitars and, thus, creators. In doing so, the company offers free tours of the facility to help strum up that interest."For us as a company as we've grown, we've really wanted to give people a deeper appreciation for what goes into an instrument," Jim Kirlin, editorial director at Taylor Guitars, says. "It's cool because a guitar has a certain built-in coolness factor, people are already drawn to the instrument as it starts. Guests are walked through everything from wood selection, fretboard construction, and modeling the shape of a particular model, down to the finer details and to final assembly."We try to paint a pretty complete picture," Kirlin said. "We do things in a different way than other companies do. It's an interesting marriage of technology and hands-on attention to detail." Taylor Guitars also partners with the San Diego Music Foundation to help supply guitars to local schools."We know that music education is really important to that next generation ... as a part of that community we want to do what we can," Kirlin says. "For years now, we've been helping put guitars into schools for instructors who do such a great job to inspire kids and to help them begin their guitar journey, begin their musical journey."And while schools may face budget constraints to arts and music programs over time, the interest in guitars isn't going anywhere, Kirlin says. If anything, he believes — like all new skills — practice makes perfect."People wonder about is there a waning interest in guitar playing in the world. I think the reality is, there's certainly a lot of things competing for people's attention," Kirlin said, noting last year that Taylor Guitars made the most guitars in a year than ever in their history. (KGTV) - A single mom's heart dropped when discovered her empty parking spot outside an El Cajon apartment.Two days after Christmas, Heather Williams' holiday cheer vanished when she stepped outside her apartment on North Mollison Ave."I came out to go to the grocery store and just stared at the empty parking spot ... My world just started spinning," said Williams.The 1997 white Honda Civic she bought used a few years ago was gone."I feel like a crappy mom. Someone took our vehicle," said Williams.It's Williams' only vehicle. Her kids go to two different high schools in El Cajon. "I have no way to get my kids to and from school. I don't know what I'm going to do," said Williams.Williams also fears her son may have to quit his job at a bait and tackle shop in Lakeside. The car was his only means of getting to work."It's his dream job. He loves fishing ... He's very upset," said Williams.Family members are also puzzled. Williams says she secured the car with an anti-theft gear shift lock."It covers the emergency break and extends to the gear shift. It's supposedly better than 'The Club' and how they got it off, I don't know," said Williams.One possibility: the thief could have loaded the car onto a flatbed truck. Willaims says there are two parrot stickers attached to the car, one on the back and one on the back windshield. The license plate of the stolen car is 3-T-M-J-2-9-5. (KGTV) — One person is dead after their vehicle became airborne and crashed, sending metal and pieces of the vehicle across the roadway.California Highway Patrol troopers tried to stop the vehicle on eastbound Interstate 8 at about 2 a.m. Saturday before the driver sped off.Troopers pursued the vehicle, which began picking up speed as it left the highway, CHP said.At one point, witnesses told 10News the vehicle hit a dip on Main St. near Jamacha Rd. at a high speed and became airborne. The driver lost control of the car and crashed, colliding with a tree and wall along the road.The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was not immediately identified.The crash sent pieces of the vehicle flying in all directions including the car's engine block, which was dislodged and found across the road.TRAFFIC: Live traffic conditions around San Diego"Seemed like just 30 minutes of just crashing and metal everywhere," one witness said. "Just a horrific sound. EL CAJON, CA (KGTV) - Students at a private school in El Cajon are scheduled to return to class next month.Parents of children at Foothills Christian Middle School got a letter from the school over the weekend outlining their re-opening plan.According to the letter, the school will re-open September 8th.A local mom contacted 10News concerned about the plan. She didn't give her name because she doesn't want retaliation against her daughter. She was surprised at the September return date."If schools could be open, I would send her to school, if the county said we could do that, I would do that, but they're saying we can't go to school and we should be wearing masks," said the mom.According to the letter, there is a five step plan for reopening:*Regular COVID-19 self-check screening questions*Temperature readings prior to entering campus*Hand hygiene*Environmental Cleaning/Sanitization and Refillable Water Bottle Stations*Face masks/coveringsThe letter states that face coverings will not be required, but will be optional on campus. It goes on to list several reasons, including:*There is a lack of evidence that wearing a face mask prevents COVID-19 transmission in children*Children are not typically trained in their use and there is potential for increased risk of infection with improper mask use*Masks can be irritating and may lead to increased touching of face and eyes*It is impractical for a child to wear a mask properly for the duration of the school dayThe mom who contacted us says this will send mixed messages to her child."What we're telling her at home is completely different than, this is completely opposite of everything we're doing. So it's shocking to her, she's like why wouldn't I wear a mask," said the mom.The letter states wearing a mask will be the personal choice of students or faculty, but there may be some occasions where face coverings are required, like field trips."I wouldn't want her to wear a mask at school and be peer pressured not to, or be made fun of for wearing it," said the mom.As far as social distancing, the letter only states, "we will do our best to encourage physical distancing."The letter asks parents and their child to sign it, agreeing to the terms before returning to school.According to CA's governor, counties on the state's COVID-19 monitoring list cannot open schools for in-person instruction.
